Meetups In SF, Portland, Vancouver: Going? July 21, 2003 10:50 PM   Subscribe

Potentially busy social calendar this weekend: MeFi meetups in San Francisco, Portland, and Vancouver planned between the 25th and the 27th. Are these all still on? Are there more I missed?

I really wanted to make San Francisco, but it has become logistically impossible. I'm still going to Vegas though.

Which reminds me........ Will any other MeFis be going to DEFCON in a few weeks? I'll be there.

Portland is still on, as far as I know. Elwoodwiles (major call-out!) was scouting a location in the park that we decided on... In any case, Laurelhurst Park, Sunday the 27th at 5:00pm. Whoo-hoo!

Vancouver's still on: Sylvia Hotel Pub, Friday July 25th, 6:30ish. Raise a glass for Miguel's birthday.

SFO is a go, as far as I know.
This Friday, July 25, 8:00 p.m. Pacific, at The Mint on Market.

I have to duck out early to go see Fountains of Wayne, though.

I'll be at the Sylvia. I would say with bells on, but bells are SO summer 2002.

I wanna go see Fountains of Wayne too, damnit.

Aww, come on, norm, it's not so lonely up here... I mean, there must be, what, 6 of us?

i'll be having a combination metafilter road rally/hide and seek/meetup this wednesday evening located here. i will be at that location sometime just prior to twilight. first one to find me gets a kiss, and the board game home version of our popular website blort.

spoilers: the north/south gravel road to the right of the image is named osbourne, or osborn, depending on which newaygo county road commission halfwit made the sign. osborn is a long road. don't bother looking south of the muskeon river. if you hit big star lake you went too far. off road trails don't strictly require 4WD but it is recommended.

the Modesto, CA meetup is M-F at 7:30 am. I work with the only other listed member. Feel free to come on down for lunch anytime Matt, we'll buy you the best scary chinese buffet food in the known universe.

I think there's a few more. Let's make something happen after I get back from Duluth.

(Sergeant Preston's is close to the law school... let's go there!)

Why do I always see the typos right after I hit post?

What's a Seattle boy to do? South to Portland or North to Vancouver?

Guess I'll sit back and wait for the various offers to come in.

vito, by all means cross the border, but if I were you I'd try and get that board game version of blort. It's sure to be a collector's item!

If so, do you need a retinue?

why have a retinue when he could have a posse! complete with backstage riders and everything...

mr. haughey requires several brands of bicycle wheel tuning stands--no spoke wrenches please, he will bring his own--and a strong WiFi signal. Lighting should be indirect whenever possible. A TV is not required, as mr. haughey uses TiVo and won't miss a damn thing. The posse which accompanies mr. haughey needs only a dark room and several workstations with internet access, no food required. Preferably this dark room can lock from the outside.

When'll that be? And Sgt. Preston's sounds good... last time I was there, I was swamped in the middle of a bunch of drunken high school music teachers. Hellish.

MeFest Minnesota oughtta happen after August 15. My wife, who lurks only, was looking at the Land of 006699 from work when a coworker walked by and said "Oh, so you're a MeFite." My wife says "what the hell is a MeFite?"

But yeah, there are others.

No dog murders here, vito90.

mathowie: kinda hard to keep discussing a meetup in metatalk when the thread closes after 30 days, as with the SF MeFi meetup thread. It was given life on June 19, and the last comment was July 14.

My wife (aacheson) tells me I'm expected to karaoke at The Mint. I've been practicing "Un velero llamado Libertad" this week in Spanish class...maybe that'll be my next single.

Yup, the Sylvia, see you there.

i am planning on being the youngest person to attend the Mint meetup and am looking forward to making you all feel old.

also: absent any reoccurence of my mystery-ulcer, i will be drunker than your damned uncle.

you have been warned.

vito90, go south, young man.

Go north, young man. Just don't bring any of that herb back over the border with you on your way home.

Portlanders-
How about we meet up at the picnic tables near the horse-shoe courts, located near the 37th and Oak St. entrance? For those from out of town, this isn't hard to find, the park is small, and there is only one horse-shoe area.

Sunday at 5:00 pm.

Whoo-hoo!

They're two days apart – you could do both.
posted by timeistight at 8:32 PM on July 22, 2003

4.5 hours apart discounting the border waits. You could come up here, smoke pot and marry your gay lover, then head south and enjoy mini-brews and a trip through Powells.

Sounds like a great weekend to me.

Portlanders-
I will bring the grill, charcoal, etc. Maybe if one person would volunteer for meat/grillables, we could just leave the rest up to pot luck? Wine/beer should be fine; there aren't too many of us.
posted by Ignatius J. Reilly at 9:29 AM on July 23, 2003

ok, fine then. it'll be just me and the west nile skeeters.

You know, I read that as "Un velcro llamado Libertad". The kind of song that sticks with you?
