hi. i dont get how this how blog thing works . isnt it just like message boards?

Metafilter is not, in one sense, a blog. It does not have a single editorial voice, which is part of the original, if not strict, definition of a blog.

It is, however, a blog in the sense that interesting links are posted regularly--which is a strict definition of a blog.

That's as clear as 12 feet of Mississippi flood water. Here's a good example of a blog, by any definition:

You might want to stop by things like Blogger and weblogs.com to learn more about blogs.

MeFi is unique in that it combines some attributes of the blog with those of message boards... but it comes out as something wholly other.
