Unfortunately I will not be able to join you all, however I hope you have a great time!

En foto's natuurlijk! Veel foto's met dronken mensen in chanteerbare situaties.

I really do not want to raise too much trouble, but ...

... an Irish pub?????????

... in the Rembrandtplein?????????

...

/I'll be there anyway

Not my everyday pub choice, but an ideal place to blend in with the rest of the noisy tourists.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was surprised by the choice (though sadly the date does not conflict with the next time I'm in Amsterdam anyway).

Any other venue suggestions ? Amsterdam natives ?

How about VOC or Engelbewaarder or Café het Schuim or Hoppe from TimeOut's list of places?

I vote for De Engelbewaarder.

ok by me (unless a native has bad things to say about it) Engelbewaarder is popular with quasi-academics and beer lovers enjoying the fine brews. Others simply admire the views from the huge picture windows.
We're all quasi-academics and beer lovers, I think.

Bitter Drunks of Amsterdam (all have links to homepages so you can see where you're going)

De Engelbewaarder used to be my neighbourhood pub (as I lived around the corner). It's OK, might be hard to get a table.

Is there anywhere with heated areas out front like in Paris?

at the rate meTa posts are popping up, you'll have to repost this next week

I've no problem with de Engelbewaarder. Do they do food?

The best Irish pub in town is Mulligans. It's like stepping into a Dublin pub 15 years ago.

i think some of us will meet a little earlier to eat--Dagobert and I will be spending the afternoon wandering around if anyone else wants to...

anywhere good and cheap to eat near Engelbewaarder? (or there if they have food maybe?)

This surely sounds like fun. I'll try to be there!

I'll make a note of that prolific. Good chance of getting caught in a fiery explosion then? *ducks*

Engelbewaarder sounds fine, merely suggested the gate because I didn't know anywhere better. Can't make it earlier for food alas.

Ehm, Dublin, oops. So much for my already lame joke. My only defence is it's morning.

prolific - they actually do a good cheese fondue, which could be fun. :)
posted by dabitch at 9:57 AM on January 29, 2004

[they do food mainly in the summer though, else it's bitterballen and cheese]

Gods, I love Amsterdam. It's probably my favorite city in the world. I'm so jealous! Wish I was going. :)

Um... how will we recognise eachother?

I'll be wearing my MeFi baseball shirt; If need be, I'll also do my utmost to look conspicuous. Also, Amberglow will be wearing clogs or carrying a bunch of tulips (he promised!)
