Why no commentary nor pictures of the MeFi Portland meetup? Here it is, Monday, and not a word about it. Did it happen? Did #1 make it? Did any of you?

When I first looked in on the thread, there wasn't a location. Now I see it was held in Hellsboro.

I'd love to see pics, too. If there's ever one in Portland, I might actually go.

unspeakable things occurred.

heh. So here's the deal, I trekked out to Hillsboro (I thought it was in Beaverton) which took a while, and found Keyzer Soze eventually, but no one else. We ate and chatted for an hour or two and no one else showed up, then left. Oh well.

Next time I think it should be in downtown Portland, at a place people are familiar with, and I'm also meaning to make a sidebar on MetaTalk with upcoming meetups so they're easier to spot for non-hourly vistors to MetaTalk.

Hmmm... Matt attracted one MeFite in Portland and three in San Diego, while I got seven (plus 3 wannabes) in L.A. (the city where they said a MeetUp couldn't possibly work)

I'm more popular than Matt!!!

Errr, by the time I got home from work and spent some QT with my daughter, it was getting late. It was rainy. I live in SE Portland. My wife rented a really good movie (Welcome to Collinwood).

Had it been in a central Portland location, however, I probably would have gone.

You know wendell, I would have been at the LA one, had I remembered, I was in town that weekend. Drat.

Yeah, it was a nasty cold and rainy night, I thought about not going.

Errr, I was pre-empted by my wife, it was getting late. It was rainy. I live in SE Portland.

Backspace! I meant to suggest this last time, but was distracted by something shiny.

I will go if there's one in Portland. I schlepped a grill for the previous non-meetup.

i have a big bag, wendell--
Can't you at least get the box the guy who shipped himself used?

can you go without air for 8 hours?
Been there. Done that. And that should help explain a lot of what I've posted here...

they charge extra for boxes, wendell--it's the bag or nada--sorry. (or maybe we could glue you to me and go as siamese twins? or as that nurse from South Park?)

Hey, let's have the next NYC meetup in Douglaston* and see how many show up!

*at the extreme eastern edge of Queens, accessible only by a series of subways, buses, &c that makes the head spin, or a taxi ride that would require cleaning out your savings account

actually, how about a Coney Island meetup in the summer?

I'm also meaning to make a sidebar on MetaTalk with upcoming meetups so they're easier to spot for non-hourly vistors to MetaTalk.

Other ways:

I've been maintaining a MetaFilter meetings calendar for some time; iCal users can subscribe to it and everyone else can view it online. (Maybe a link to this calendar on that sidebar?)

I suppose someone could list the events on the MetaFilter Tribe as well.

...and uh...anyways...let's see what else...i..i..uh...it was coney island, they called coney island the playground of the world. there was no place like it....in the whole world, like coney island when i was a youngster. no place in the world like it....it was so fabulous. now it shrunk down to almost nothing, you see. and...and I still remember in my mind how things used to be...and uh..you know...i feel very bad. but people from all over the world came here...from all over the world...there was a playground..they called it the playground of the world...over here. anyways...uh (trips over word)..i..uh...you know. i even got..when i was..when i was very small, i even got lost in coney island, but they found me....on the..on on..on the beach. and we used to sleep on the beach here, sleep overnight. they don't do it anymore, things changed....see.

they don's sleep anymore on the beach.

I waited for everyone to show up, going around the tables and asking if anyone was there for a meetup. I ran into Mathowie because I noticed his camera. We sat and talked small stuff, and if you haven't met him he is interesting to talk to, very down to earth. During the meal I kept getting up and making sure anyone else was around. All in all, Matt drove way out of his way for an hour of small chit chat. I thought that sucked, but I had a good time.

Next time we have to e-mail each other to see what we will be wearing, and have it in a location that is more accessible.

I like the aquarium. It has walrus. Even the Monterey Bay Aquarium doesn't have walrus
(although it's bigger and cleaner in general - but it's coney island, so fuggitaboutit)

I'd love to go to a meetup in OR (portland or otherwise) but didn't realize it was going on. That sidebar idea is a good one, please do it.
