Yes. Jrun is rude.

About 10% of the time, today. That Jrun's getting on my nerves.

Got it once -- very distressing.

Did earlier. Then no. Then yes, again, just now. 2:20 AM CST.

I think they're due to server restarts. I'll check the error logs on the box and see if I can get to the bottom of it. I wanted to know how widespread and often they're hitting for other folks, thanks!
posted by mathowie (staff) at 1:07 AM on January 31, 2004

Here too. Server restarts sounds plausible, as reloading immediately after getting one will usually still get one, only waiting a bit helps.

Yes (just now, trying to get to AskMe).
posted by thomas j wise at 6:04 AM on January 31, 2004

yes, on Mefi all the time now - AskMe is ok
posted by MzB at 6:34 AM on January 31, 2004

was getting that a few minutes ago - now getting a MySql error on the MeFi sidebar, and the rest of the page doesn't load. (safari)
posted by stonerose at 7:02 AM on January 31, 2004

sorry, that wasn't too clear. about 50% of the time, I get the Jrun error. When I don't get that, I get this in a grey box where the sidebar should be:

"Error Executing Database Query.
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?): JVM_Bind "
posted by stonerose at 7:04 AM on January 31, 2004

I'm running into this - JRun Connector Protocol Error.
right now. Every time I try to connect to MeFi.
posted by graventy at 7:04 AM on January 31, 2004

Yup, just got "Jrun closed the connection", on AskMe.

MeFi just gave me stonerose's error message.

[on preview - jeez, did everybody just wake up?]
posted by carter at 7:07 AM on January 31, 2004

Yeah, I'm getting it when I try to get to MeFi.
AskMe and MeTa seem to be okay, but I've only tried each once.

Also, the Bold, Italics, and Link shortcuts at the bottom of the posting box look busted.

On preview: the shortcuts look fine.
posted by rocketman at 7:09 AM on January 31, 2004

Yes, just a couple of minutes ago. Hit reload and he front page loads in fits and spirts. Reload again and all is good.
posted by bonehead at 7:20 AM on January 31, 2004

I've seen all of the above, plus it seems cache-control is messed up - new versions of pages don't load.
posted by TimeFactor at 7:20 AM on January 31, 2004

They keeps the precious invisible, they does.
posted by stonerose at 7:42 AM on January 31, 2004

Now the frontpage is b0rken.

I get two or three of these errors on load:

Error: syntax error
Source File: http://www.metafilter.com/scripts/nicetitle.js
Line: 1
Source Code:
[H2]Server Error[/H2]The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. [P] [B]JRun Connector Protocol Error.[/B]
posted by bonehead at 7:45 AM on January 31, 2004

Sorry, forgot to mention: those errors are copied from the javascript console, not from the browser.
posted by bonehead at 7:47 AM on January 31, 2004

I'm seeing the same as graventy. Can't get into the white at all - grey and green seem fine.
posted by bonaldi at 7:53 AM on January 31, 2004

I keep getting them a lot, including badly loaded pages.

[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?): JVM_Bind

Jrun, or his evil cousins JDBC or JVM_Bind?

Jrun?
posted by hama7 at 10:30 AM on January 31, 2004

I can get into askme and metatalk fine, but I'm still getting the jrun-around every time I try to get into metafilter.

Also, I've gotten a strange error message (not of the jrun sort) once while trying to read the comments on an askme thread.
posted by interrobang at 10:53 AM on January 31, 2004

jrun? i don't know about that, but this "drive c: not found" shit is really getting on my last nerve. i never got that crap on earthlink! i'm telling everybody not to get metafilter anyway, cuz yahoo DSL is way better.

Common or garden jrun error spotted just now.
posted by Blue Stone at 11:18 AM on January 31, 2004

Strange, the front page just half loaded and I could see text that said "Click here to argue" and it was a link to ephilosopher.com. Now the front page fully loads and it's not there. Anyone else catch that? Good idea nevertheless.

posted by hot soup girl at 3:46 AM on February 1, 2004

No, not better, not better at all. Worserer if anything. My comment a few threads down that it was only on AskMe should be ignored even more stringently than most of my comments, as it is now happening on MeTa as well, but not on MeFi (at this stage, anyway).

MeTa keeps telling me I as logged out, and showing no post more recent than Miguel's accents one. And when I try to login I am told that listing the virtual directory is denied. Both Green and White have been fine though.
