What have I done to get this white and blue stuff? May 14, 2001 4:36 AM   Subscribe

don't know what i've done, but the last couple of days i seem to click on a link and the whole screen just reverts to white background and blue letters with underlined links rather than the link i'm trying to access. seemed to happen most with search features....
what have i done? is my pc about to meltdown? ;-)

It sounds like CSS is turned off in your browser.

No, wait. It only happens some of the time? Is that what you're saying?

yeah, just some of the time. like tonight, it hasn't happened yet, but yesterday, it happened three times, enough to make me go "what?"
(sorry for the delay in answering, but i'm on the other side of the world, so i had to go to sleep!)

oh, by the way - what is css? [i'm not good on the behind the scenes stuff.... :-) ]

CSS stands"Cascading Style Sheets"; CSS is used to assign font size, background color, and the like in standards-compliant HTML 4.

I've seen this myself, but (oddly enough) when I'm looking at all of a user's posts. I assume it has to do with the CSS load not happening quite right, because it often seems to go with the top off the file being screwy. Next time I see it, I'll view source and report.

ahhhh. i see.
this seemed to happen a couple of days running when i occasionally clicked on a user's profile or tried to use the search function - the screen would do its weirdness rather than just go to the link. today it seems to be fine. go figure. *smiles*

thanks for your help and the explanation. i appreciate it.
