A-lister birthday post hacks off user May 28, 2001 10:31 PM Subscribe
Argh... screwed up the prompt, so I'll translate:
What was wrong with wishing a Mefi member a "Happy Birthday"? It's been done before.
(Please delete my previous post Matt... it worked in the preview... sorry)

9000 members / 365 days == 24 birthday greetings per day.
Unless, of course, only A-listers get to be wished.

Moreover, a warning of some sort as to the content ahead would have been appreciated... "Happy birthday to MeFi's favorite exhibitionist" would have sufficed.

Halcyon's made no appreciable contribution to MeFi and as far as I can tell, is famous mainly for being famous. There are lots of MeFi members who actually post here. Why notkiss up wish a happy birthday to one of them?

All the more reason to squash this trend now.

Good points...
I can agree with the concept of (potentially) 24.657534 "Happy Birthday" posts every day can be a little too much on Matt's T1.
Perhaps a "no birthday/anniversary" thingy should go into effect immediately.
After I wish the other John a happy belated birthday, and Lagado one in advance.
PS: Halcyon can't be an A-lister, he answers his e-mail.

My birthday is in the first week of October. Y'all are excused from posting a birthday link to my site, and wishing me well, which will give you a little more time for the approx. 168 other MeFi members you will need to compose greetings for.
Of course, given the way membership is growing, it will likely be 300-400 birthdays in that week.

How about only letting people wish Happy Birthday if they include a link to a picture of a kitty? We loooooove kitties!
