Would it be possible to eliminate most forms of *YAWN*-ing?

i hate that too...it seemed to have gone away for a long while tho. Name the perpetrators and we'll shame em or something.

Surely that's impossible -- it's contagious...

YAWN.

you know you wanted it, baby
posted by quonsar at 2:44 PM on April 16, 2004

No need for a link as its becoming all-too-common.

I'm really getting sick of users who think they can express their moral and intellectual superiority over the unwashed mefites with a *YAWN* or two. Why do posters even bother expressing their (metaphorically) gaping mouth? Do they think they'll be instantly crowned as Metafilter taste-makers whose very deep breath will cause the offending post to be sucked down their dried esophagus?

If you are so offended by a post regarding reality tv, a ball of twine, or some political or religious ephemera, would you at least post a short, ill-informed rant about how you are superior to all the others because you don't own a tv and how the daily beatings from your grandmother made you into the thoughtful, tasteful, brilliant mind you are today.

Don't just sit there and fucking *YAWN*. Contribute or stay the hell out.

Thanks quonsar... I can always count on you for that deep, down satisfaction that gets the goo going.

Doesn't pointing out irritating things in MeTa usually just make it worse?

I support a ban on fist shaking , the sight of quonsar fisting people is unneccesssary on a family website.

Technically, bringing things to metatalk should make them better, because this is supposedly the venue for community policing to take place. But it never works out that way, does it?

Thought we had a "yawn" meta-talk post before or maybe it was member whom was pointed out for it...anyone remember. Thanks all, now I'm yawning.

I know this is a 'get off my lawn you damn kids!' kinda post but I've been real irritable of late, with the lumbago acting up and all...

I'm also really sick of the chorus which screams 'Double Post!' for posts whose original was over six months ago. I recently saw a cry of 'double post' over something originally posted three years ago. Why can't they realize everything old is new again, eventually, and just leave it the hell alone.

damn kids.

How do your know you don't like it, unless you read it?

You're not encouraging me to pre-judge people are you? School said that wasn't cool.

On the contrary, it is an excellent incentive to improve one's moral and intellectual standing, so that one can yawn as well.

I've seen metatalk threads over all sorts of silly things.

I decided I would post one about an issue which threatens the very foundations of our civilization. Why you do not see the importance of this, I do not understand.

Still, I'm glad you're still capable of fishy astonishment. Its always good to have a sense of wonder.

FWIW, I'm with you, pandaharma, but I've found that getting the MeFi community to listen to reason regarding "non-content posts" (NCP's) is like trying to stop a pack of wild wolves with a steak.
