With the wiki we can ALL drive this baby! My vote is to meet at the Head of Steam pre-football (say 6pm) and take it from there. I'm happy to post my mobile number on the wiki if we think we might move on (if you're smart you can find the number anyway.)

A pub in a railway station? Strike me down if I'm wrong, but this seems unoriginal for an Internet meet ;-) (The nasty pub in Victoria station having been used for this purpose many a time.) Points for originality would go for a flashmeet.. everyone meets at a busy public place at 7.07pm, shout out 'PANCAKES!' and runs into the nearest pub. :-D

wackybrit, the Head of Steam is not your typical station pub - it actually has decent beers. But I'm open to anything (it wasn't my idea anyway).

Wait a minute - aren't you all supposed to be in Lisbon for the Thursday game? Do you have no morals?
posted by MiguelCardoso at 7:52 AM on June 22, 2004

I suggested the Head of Steam as it's not likely to be too packed on a Fri evening, has decent beers & should be easy for all to get to. I could be wrong on many counts...

BTW, it's not the pub overlooking the station concourse (Coopers?), it is on the left (as you face Euston Rd) where all the buses stop at the front of the station.

I'm happy to go anywhere to start...as I'm not boozing at the moment, quality of drinks don't matter ;-) But 6pmish in the HoS seems as good as anything...

Ah, thanks, Migs - but I guess we can enjoy the whupping you'll get from the UK just as much - better than getting stitched up & beaten up by your cops, anyway...(",)

Damn. I would likely have made it for a Saturday meetup - spend day in London, etc. I'm not sure a Friday night is practical.

did you all know that Michigan ranks #2 for people struck by lightning in the U.S. and statitics show that if one lives until 80, in michigan, the chances of being struck by lightning are 1:3000
or is 1:7000

hmmm

....so i guess the good news is one is more likely to be robbed in ones lifetime then struck by lightning...

cbrody: yes, and worse yet you publicly humiliated me. On the bright side, that means you lot can now recognise me. I'll be the one sitting one table away glaring at cbrody for the first half hour.

Anyway, on a more serious note: As those of you reading the wiki will have noticed, I'm actually going to make it to London on time. Don't have a clue what's busy or not tomorrow though, judging by the comments there's going to be some sort of football thing going on; I'll leave that decision to the natives.

Wow fvw, you must be a sensitive soul. How have I humiliated you??
posted by cbrody at 3:37 PM on June 22, 2004

Goodness, this seems like it may happen.
Anybody know where we'll be finishing, and where I could get a mid priced Alan Partridge style Motel that'll be reasonably near?

On a more serious note. On the Saturday it'll be my BIRTHDAY. There's no real reason for you to know this, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Seanyboy: And you're going to celebrate by buying us all drinks? How sweet!

Yay! seanyboy...21 again? (",)

I'll try and get along if I can escape work, and can I make a suggestion for venue? The phoenix bar (under the phoenix theatre on charing cross, opposite st martins school of art), is a wonderful downstairs pub and it's open to all until nine I think. After that it's members only to get in but if you're in there before then you're in, and it's open till three, and most amusing.

Phoenix Bar is a good place, and we can easily move onto Wagamama from there. Count me in!
posted by cbrody at 3:52 PM on June 23, 2004

Sounds like a plan...

Is anyone prepared to post a mobile no. to the wiki - say, for a day or so, from thursday - so that out-of-towners who get distracted by tall buildings and shiny things can call if they get lost (obviously this is for seanyboy's benefit, not mine...).

ciderwoman - looking forward to seeing y'all again!

*tut*
Trust ciderwoman to drag us all to one of his evil meeja peepl haunts ;-)

Good for me...
