Is there a time interval one should wait before requesting the next meetup? July 2, 2004 9:25 AM Subscribe
Is there any particular time interval one should wait before requesting the next meetup in some location?
Well there seem to be somewhat regularly scheduled meetups in NYC (every 3-4 months or so); in other places they seem to be more impromptu affairs. I'd say the 3-4 month period seems reasonable for larger, general gatherings.
That said, even though we just had a Vancouver MeFi meetup in April, we still managed to get a bunch of people together in June to welcome an out-of-town MeFite visiting our fair city. And the Minneapolis-area MeFites seem positively chummy...they'll meet up at the drop of a hat.
So nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'd say post the meetup request to MeTa and see who bites. If no one else, I'm sure amberglow will turn up ;)
seriously, he needs some kind of 12-step program to fight his meetup addiction.

Oh, Juan. You card.
In New York, there are the official ones every couple-four months, but if there's an even unwritten rule, it's that it is customary to not have a meetup until the last one has ended. Avoids double booking. You know.
But consecutive weekends? Consecutive days? One at lunch, and then a sensible dinner? Hell, yeah. We can do it.
Any esteemed visitors to NYC wanna hook up this month?
How's, oh, July 16 or 17?

You must wait for the hangovers to subside.

It depends. Some people need half an hour or more to recover, others can go 4 or 5 times in an hour.

I'll be in NY July 25 through 28 or so, and maybe early August (still not sure), but it sounds like you could have another one, even if you meet the 16th or 17th. Maybe?

Stynxno, why don't you just go back to Colorado?
Sheesh, if the MeFiNYC club is gonna let Stynxno in then it's true that the standards have dropped.
Now if you need me, I'll be over here seething in a jealous rage.

I think if it depends if sex was involved. If you were "intimate" during the last meetup, then it is customary. . .
Oh wait. Thought this was an askme post. Move along.

One vote for the Bohemian Hall here. It's outside so everyone can smoke. The beer is terrific and so is the food. And a large contingent of the MeFiNY crew lives in the neighborhood (including me!).

How about another UK meetup, given the poor attendance of the last one? There seemed to be a lot of people very interested in coming but couldn't make it.

Astoria is just over the Queensboro Bridge, as close as, say, Williamsburg is to Manhattan (and on the much more reliable N/W train to boot). There are at least a half dozen genial mefites in the neighboprhood, and the Beer Hall, och! The Beer hall is a taste of old Prague.
And the beer, the food and the polka music are phenomenal for a hot summer night.
(And do we need a goat? Dude, I can get you a goat.)
Now, as far as a date. the 25th-28th is Sunday through Thursday. Caitlin, any lead time in either direction on that? Fridays and Saturdays make the drunken baby Mefites very happy.

Well, I'm working both weekends before and after (in Washington DC), but if you go for August 6 or 7th, I'll probably be in NYC, then, too.

Okay, then. How about Saturday, August 7th at the Bohemian Beer Hall? Could that possibly be a plan?

Naw. We get too many black cockerels at these things. They eat all the food and shit in your hat. Kind of messy.
But can you bring Jarvis Cockerel?
