Julefrokost MeFi Meetup. I'm throwing a party the 11th December, would any Copenhagen mefiosos like to join us?
dabitch, I'm trying to find a good english translation of Julefrokost - google turns up a lot of Danish pages, but neither they nor our friends at worldlingo & babelfish trade in danish.
Any pointers? [to danish translations, and to english pages on Julefrokost] (",)

Bingo! The tradition of getting absolutely hammered with your colleagues at work a day in December, and with your friends on the weekends is a julefrokost.

What a wonderful tradition. Although making it a national holiday would go against the premise of it, wouldn't it? :)

"mefiosos" has been ruled stylistically superior to "mefites," by no less an authority than me.

Here's an interesting short article from the Copenhagen Post about the traditional foods of julefrokost, concluding with this nice sentence: " In the myriad of this food and drink, of course, there is fellowship, which in Danish may be translated in part as hygge--the spirit of togetherness and good cheer against the harshness of dead time of the year and the more banal realties of Christmas in the modern world. "
I can appreciate that sentiment. I can't be there, but I'll be beaming a little Greek kefi your way on the day, dabitch.

I'll tip tuborgs and beam general drunkness in everyones direction, happy that you're there in spirit with kefi. :) Since it's so close to Lucia, I'll be making lussekatter. I guess we can try a scandi-meetup again in the summer. :)

Hey, cool!
If I'm not on Fanø, I'll most happily join the binge drinking, thank you very much.
