*considers Miguel-esque MeTa post to announce that he has finally fallen out of the Top 25*

Me, that is. Miguel is still up there. It'll take a lot more than a few months of quiet behavior for him to fall off the Top 25 ;-)

What's the definition of "Contribution Index"?

I saw that yesterday. Funky things going on with the contrib index. I'm sure Dan knows about it. It'll be awhile anyway before the index is meaningful again. At least a couple of weeks. Although, just as you could in my case, you can see who some of the long-term high-profile people are likely to be. Bugbread, for one, I think.

Mine's (real life b-day) friday. Beer, cigarettes, fried food, porn, and records will do fine.

Noted. Beercigarettes and fried porn for jonmc.

What's the definition of "Contribution Index"?

I heard of a neat tool that you could use to find the definition of words, but I can't quite remember what it was.

DrJohn- I just noticed this neat thing on my mouse.... if you spin it, you can scroll up and down a page! So now I know what a Contribution Index is.

Since there's no clear "join date" the index appears to use today, and that gives a huge total of posts, which, when divided by "he signed up today" would give an absurd index.

But hey, he is user 58!

"... appears to use today" as his join date and given his "huge total of posts" the index system (huge total/today=index) "would give an absurd" result.

Sorry

Happy Birthday, Amberglow.

(And I'm sorry, but your name still says "female" to me, contrary to reality. Perhaps I will overcome this association. Someday.)

That's hilarious. I have been struggling with that very thing since I started reading the site. It just doesn't compute in my head. I will continue to try as well though. And Happy Birthday amberglow.

For a long time while I was lurking, I was sure that "amberglow" was female. I'm assuming for the same reason as others: "amber". But I figured it out and then, after interacting with him, amberglow is unquestionably male to me now. Funny how that works.

Happy bday, amberglow.

It's right in his profile, folks:

It's my drag/porn name ; >

So it does. I think I'll add lat/long to mine like amberglow's done. Which is a little spooky, come to think of it, as I got it from my gps and it's basically my bedroom patio. Oh, what the hell. Was Matt gonna switch to a coord thing so it works internationally?

I really wish you hadn't said that. We're almost exactly the same age (aren't we?) and my bday was last month. Middle-aged. Bah.

Happy birthday amber! Hannah and Tommy wish you well too.

What's this about "middle age" though? You don't look a day over 50!

Happy B'Day AmberGlow, you've enriched my MeFi experience with your insights and support.

Wasn't there someway to manipulate the URL to find out where any given member ranked? Or are my dreaming world and reality clashing again? If so then I'm dreaming about Natalie Portman and Hilary Duff wrestling in a large tub of jello.

Damn!

I'm both happy to be on the list and worried that I may suffer logorrhea...Oh well, I'm moving house today and there's no internet access at my new place, so my index will plummet until I have a slow night shift at work.

And happy birthday, Amberglow!

While a long time reader, I only started paying attention to individual names since signing up, so, yeah, I'm in the same boat with struggling to remember that Amberglow's a guy. I think I've pretty much got it now, though.

I guess this means nobody will beat jonmc ever, right? That's okay. I can live with that.

Wait a second... Holy shit, I'm number six? I guess I'd better keep on posting hard and not let myself fall off the list. Maybe one day people will hold grudges against me and stuff and I'll be famous, just like some of the veteran users. I love seeing all the love/hate bubble to the surface in a good political thread.

Or I could find some cool quirky Japanese toilet links to post to the blue, instead of being a nutbag. ToiletFilter anyone?

Happy birthday Amber, and all the other Decemberites.

(I, too, still think female even though I know Amber's male. But, I actually think that's kinda fun. Makes you think a bit about gender each time. Yes, I'm a geek.)

Hey, have a really happy birthday, dear Amber - in fact, make it the whole 12 months ahead and consider my wishes refreshed when you're a year (even) wiser!

Miguel is still up there. It'll take a lot more than a few months of quiet behavior for him to fall off the Top 25 ;-)

And I'm very sorry, Shane, but I don't care if this comment severely handicaps my quest to undertake quonsar (#12 at 5.48, though that guitar post today should by rights earn him a 2.00 discount) and five fresh fish (#13 at 5.43)*. You're worth it, Amber. I rarely venture into MeTa, as you know, as I can't stand the acrimony and the endless elaboration, but - what the hell, you only live once, right?

* I'm still #11 at an embarrassing 5.91 but it could safely be said I have them within my sights, considering how they've both rabbited on of late.

For as long as I live, I shall never understand people who don't appreciate the value of just keeping quiet. There must be some attraction to chatting, making jokes and sharing your every opinion on every matter under the sun - but it sure escapes me...

Is that what those writerly folks call irony, Miguel? Don't answer, you'll raise your contribution index. Ironically, I miss being in the Top 25. It felt like fame or infamy, of some sort anyway.

Sorry for the mixup. Someone e-mailed me to tell me there were some problems and I discovered that Matt had changed the format of the user page. I changed the parser to fix it, but in the process broke the code for early members (like jonmc) which use hard coded dates.

Things should be back to normal now.
