This comment is very unnecessary, distracting and long. It also has nothing to do with the posted links. Can it please be removed?

As far as I can tell, it's a laundry list of comments made by kablam on a different topic that y2karl didn't like, and felt the need to post in his distinctive style in an unrelated thread.

karl, if you keep posting that, we'll go blind.

Just be thankful there are no copied/pasted essays in title tags.

I'd prefer a script that automatically deletes any post that has "Just Sayin'" in it, especially if is in small type.

Just Sayin'

Just ban it for y2karl, Matt.

Yeah, isn't saying "just sayin'" redundant? I mean, I know you just said it! I have proof!

yeah, fuck karl, he's almost as uninteresting a poster as troutfishing was. they're so annoying, these guys. they're so unlike the true model MFi citizens -- you know, our new MeTa nannies, loquax and Steve@Dimwood

but then again, it's Matt's sandbox and he is free to do as he pleases.

just as one is of course free to disagree with Numero Uno

I like the small tag when it's used to imply that one is speaking in a tiny voice, but I hate when stupid motherfuckers write gigantor posts in it as though, somehow, it makes them any less longwinded. It doesn't.

I'm a fan of the small tag -- the real problem is the extra-small.
posted by me3dia at 1:35 PM on December 14, 2004

Hey, matteo, this wasn't a post. It was a comment and Y2karl wasn't even doing his own material, just regurgitating Kablam's word for word (for about four pages). No editorializing, no incisive wit, nothing. And it was totally irrelevant to the thread, just an attempt to mock the poster. No question about it. Are you sure you really think we need more of that?
posted by loquax at 1:38 PM on December 14, 2004

yeah. don't blame the small tag, matt. i use that in almost every message.

and we all know that I'M what's important around here.

Sweet mary mother of jesus, matteo, Steve@Dimwood? Steve@Dimwood?

What were you thinking?
posted by kavasa at 2:02 PM on December 14, 2004

Ah, this is what happens when you hit preview, do other stuff for 20 minutes, and then come back to hit "post".

mute, two things:
1. Actual karl-brand opinions may be rare and skittish things, but I do often like the articles he links to. If only he wouldn't past them in in small text! Argh!
2. What is with the xnamex thing? Why why why do people do it?

posted by Sidhedevil at 2:45 PM on December 14, 2004

Or maybe just style <small><small> to be the same as <small> in the CSS. Or people could do it in user-defined CSS. There's probably even some way to handle arbitrarily nested small tags from ever getting under x pixels, like:
* > small {font-size: 9px;}

Because I like <small>, but <small><small><small>is really small on Firefox.

What is with the xnamex thing?

And all this time I assumed xmutex's name had something to do with mutexes - binary semaphores used in concurrent programming to provide mutual exclusion.
posted by driveler at 3:10 PM on December 14, 2004

I really liked kablam's thread - not only the subject matter, but the sources, the question, etc. - before the discussion lost the plot, and somehow it turned into competing tirades about the french and the etymology of zhongua.

y2karl's comment is the reason some (read as: lesser) places have character limits for comments. I normally like his FPP's, but I just scroll (and scroll, and scroll) past the irrelevant soapbox comments.

If you nest enough small tags, they start getting big again. Don't ask how I know.
posted by tracicle at 3:58 PM on December 14, 2004

You know, I didn't even realize until a minute or so ago that I had posted that comment. I thought better and thought I had left it in preview when I exited. My apologies, by all means--I didn't realize I had hit post the last time. There are so many dumb comments I have written and not posted in whose company I had wished to leave it.

I like the small tag. Size matters.

Doesn't mean people should abuse it, though.

Can we employ a filter that automatically does this to comments of users we dislike? Frankly, I'm tired of reading what most of you have to say.
