I'm not seeing the bug. What browser/OS are you using?

I'm using IE 6.0 / Wndows XP. I've cleared cookies twice; checked the AskMe page "logged out" and "logged in". I've checked it also on two separate computers...still getting the bold text ... and it actually appears to start with the "Jared Tarbell" post ... the bold text commences at the "at 9:22 AM PST" point.

I just checked the AskMe page on my Apple PowerBook G4 with Safari ... no problem in that setting.

Interesting ... the text on my PC/IE configuration for the Jared Tarbell post is ccompletely different from the text on my Apple/Safari.

On the PC/IE it reads - "Jared Tarbell generously offers the source code to posted by Termite at 9:22 AM PST - 4 comments" while on the Apple/Safari it reads ... [let me "cut-and-paste" and send from that computer ...

"Jared Tarbell generously offers the source code to Binary Ring (click on ”Thumbnail gallery” – ”Binary Ring” – ”Launch applet”). I’d like to modify this code to make larger images of the same type but I’m not getting anywhere. How do I do this? I’m a beginner idiot.

...and "beginner" is slashed out in the Safari version.

Also ... on the PC/IE version ("Jared Tarbell generously offers the source code to posted by Termite at 9:22 AM PST - 4 comments") - the words "posted by" are hyperlinked to http://www.complexification.net/" [sic - it contains the " after the slash].

I see this too using IE6/Win2K.

Shows up like this on Win2K:
Jared Tarbell generously offers the source code to posted by Termite at 9:22 AM PST - 4 comments
and like this in Firefox:
Jared Tarbell generously offers the source code to Binary Ring (click on ”Thumbnail gallery” – ”Binary Ring” – ”Launch applet”). I’d like to modify this code to make larger images of the same type but I’m not getting anywhere. How do I do this? I’m a beginner idiot.

(I meant "shows up like this on IE" not "Win2k")

Is it because there is an extra set of " at the end of the original linK? I'm not an html guru though...

I'm also running into the problem of the RSS feed hanging, though I can access the site.
posted by bkdelong at 12:28 PM on January 2, 2005

Oops. I meant the Binary Ring link.
posted by bodabutton at 12:29 PM on January 2, 2005

And to clarify with the PC/IE version the post is all on one line: "Jared Tarbell generously offers the source code to posted by Termite at 9:22 AM PST - 4 comments" - and the "posted by" is not the standard MeFi "posted by" ... but inline, bolded and hyperlinked (as mentioned above).

Same here, Win2K/IE6:

Ok, how about this? Termite's link is before " ", not inside it.

Seems fine in XP/Firefox. Within 5 minutes, you could be viewing it perfectly well..

Binary Ring

Yup, there's a missing ["] just before http://

Clearly, IE is less forgiving than FF.

I see the same problem with IE6/XP.

Exactly as the screenshot of mr_crash_davis

I'm too lazy to hunt it in the markup, but there's an extra space + quote mark in the hyperlink about Jared Tarbell.

Strange ... now the text in this thread is all bolded from "posted by dash_slot- at 1:04 PM PST on January 2 " and below.
posted by ericb at 1:30 PM on January 2, 2005

bold - again only in XP/IE configuration; not Apple/Safari
posted by ericb at 1:32 PM on January 2, 2005

That's because ericb copied and pasted the offending code, which reproduced the error here too. :))

And I thought it was something I did because it appeared as soon as I posted my comment.

Hmmm ... strange ... beyond my HTML skills.

Question: why the discrepancy in slashdot's 1:04 PM comment between the XP/IE version (shorter text with hyperlink to "posted by") and the Apple/Safari text (more complete text - multiple lines)? And note that the bolding (in the XP/IE version) started immediately after slashdot's 1:04 PM comment.
posted by ericb at 1:44 PM on January 2, 2005

... similar to the original issue over in AskMe.
posted by ericb at 1:45 PM on January 2, 2005

Matt - everything is back to normal on AskMe ... full-text of the original post ... and no more bolding below it. Thanks.
posted by ericb at 1:53 PM on January 2, 2005

Should be fixed now.
posted by mathowie (staff) at 1:53 PM on January 2, 2005

Although ... the bolding is still resident here (XP/IE) from dash_slot's 1:04 p.m. post and below. I'm sure your fixing it right now. :)
posted by ericb at 1:54 PM on January 2, 2005

I suspect all you need to do is remove the offending " from the link in dash_slot's 1:04 p.m. "posted by"
