Chicago Meetup January 16, 2005 9:05 AM   Subscribe

All right, broad-shouldered MeFites, mark your calendars: after tabulating the votes, the Chicago meetup will be Saturday, January 29th. [location to be determined inside]

In the original thread, the following bars were mentioned without receiving any serious objection: the Hopleaf, the Billy Goat (there seem to be a half-dozen bars by this name, and I'm not sure which one was intended), the Hungry Brain, and the Four Moon. I would vote for the Hopleaf myself, but as it happens I'm the only person (that I know of) who can't make the 29th, so my opinion can be discounted. Anyhow, talk amongst yourselves and let's see what can be hammered out.

(And, of course, I posted this in the wrong category. Go me! Fearless Leader has been notified.)

You aren't the only one. 29th does not work for me either. I have a convention.

Yabbut the 29th it is. It doesn't really matter that much if some people can't make it to this one; there can be others.

I'm ok with any of those locations but will vote for the Hopleaf or Four Moon.

I vote HOPLEAF

Another Hopleaf vote. I've never been, but after seeing it mentioned in the original thread I've asked around and everyone tells me it rocks. Billy Goat is not a place I enjoy being in any longer than it takes to eat a burger (smokey, noisy, and crowded). Since it's a Saturday are we looking at an early evening/later afternoon thing or is this a late group? I'm hoping earlier, but I'm ready for anything.

Hopleaf for me too. It's within sneezing distance of my house.

I vote for the Hopleaf, even though I can't make Saturdays. Dag nabbit. You all could come out and keep me company at my theater (LaSalle Bank Cinema). Scratch that, the movie I'm showing on the 29th doesn't look very good. But on other Saturdays, feel free to come out: just use the MeFi secret handshake and password, and I'll know who you are.

That's a handshake with a tightly folded pancake against your palm, right?

Yes, and the password is "so this cinema, it vibrates?" Or some other MeFi in-joke.

the Billy Goat (there seem to be a half-dozen bars by this name, and I'm not sure which one was intended)
I meant the One True Billy Goat, the one under the bridge at Michigan Ave. and Hubbard.

However, I vote for Hopleaf.

Hopleaf seems to be consensus; Fantastic. I've seen the map, however, can anyone clue me in on the parking situation? I'm coming from the western burbs and wonder if the train might be an easier solution. (Not an Illinois native) Suggestions MeFites? Thanks.

With the Metra, the last Saturday BNSF outbound leaves Union Station @ 12:40AM getting you back @ 1:32AM. So depending on how late you want to be out, that could be an issue.

Parking isn't easy in Andersonville, but it's doable. You don't have to worry about permit parking, so the best bet is to try the side streets.

Well this fell off the front page fast.

No kidding.

Note that we have no *time* listed for the meet-up. Shall we say 8pm?
I'll bring a sign with MeFi pancakes on it. Let's meet in the upstairs bar.
