Do you find out why your Anonyme question is rejected? February 12, 2005 12:02 PM   Subscribe

If an anonymous question is posted to AskMeFi which is deemed inappropriate for the page, do the administrative powers e-mail the original poster to explain why?

Not in my experience.

Not that I know of, because the administrative peon of MeFi skippy gets the post approved by mathowie before it appears on Ask MeFi.

It won't be posted and then deemed inappropriate, but just deemed inappropriate and ignored. I don't think they contact you to explain why the question isn't posted, though.

depends on your definition of 'posted'.

FYI, mathowie does all the anonymous posting stuff in AskMe in case you're wondering who knows who you are, I never see them. I think sometimes he lets people know why he didn't post something and sometimes he doesn't.

Usually the reason is "this doesn't need to be anonymous" or similarly "that would easily be slightly generalized to remove any embarrasing aspect" but often they're just too wordy or too long.

I rarely email folks, because it's a pain for me to track it down.

If you submit one and it is not posted after 3-5 days, is it ok to refine the question and submit it again?

I remember posting an anonymous question and being ignored. That is not a good feeling. Just saying.

You can always just buy a new account and post it. For 5 bucks, it's a good deal.

SSF, did it get posted and ignored, or did #1 not reply to a request?

I'm a little bothered by this, Matt. With all due respect, your decision that a post "doesn't need to be anonymous" in some cases is...well...it feels wrong to me. I can understand the "too wordy or too long" issue, but "this doesn't need to be anonymous" doesn't take into account any of the poster's needs. I mean, they/we have our reasons, known to you or not.

I know it's your sandbox, but I'd like to see some clear criteria on this issue so that if I decide I need to post anonymously in the future I'll know what the chances are of the post making it to the green.

#1 did not reply to a request. Which is his right, I'm just kind of wistfully musing, "if only there were a better way..." Because it's never nice to just ignore people, if you can figure out a way around it.

Having said all that, I'm in no position to help Matt figure out a way around it, heh.

I'm glad to hear that there are criteria for deciding what needs to be anonymous and what doesn't. And to mathowie's credit, most of the anon posts lately seem to have more or less valid reasons for being anonymous.
