Matt (and everyone)--

Recently there have been several self-promoting posts, or posts that are simply for discussion. I know the problem is getting people to come to Metatalk, but wouldn't this be a better place to put that kind of thing? And while I don't want to volunteer Matt for extra work, maybe a good start would be to start moving those sorts of things here with a note on the front page saying you'd done it.

Just a thought, mind you.

Yeah, I've been thinking about MetaTalk integration with Metafilter more and more. The next redesign of Metafilter (probably a couple months off) will have a content area running down the right side, and there I'll put the 3 to 5 most recent posts, or most commented to posts from Metatalk and any of the other planned sites (like the ticketstub one).

I dunno, I was kind of miffed at the "how long do you wait to reply to email" thread showing up at first, but the discussion that followed was good. Too bad it didn't happen here.

Baylink brings up an interesting point though.

I'm not the only one responsible for that sort of posting, of course, but when I *do* post something like that, I try to make it

1) interesting (pretty good luck so far)
2) lightweight (most of the actual copy pushed down into a comment) and
3) well enough labeled so that those uninterested can skip it without having any long downloads to bitch about.

So far, I seem to have been pretty successful. I realize it's bending the rules, but isn't that what rules are *for*?

:-)

It seems to be my metier, on the net. Occasionally I blow it, someone bitches, I mope for a couple days, then I get over it.

I have a personal issue with banning the idiots.
