Hooray! Ask MetaFilter is finally on the Front Page Menu! (And you thought we wouldn't notice, Matt... What? It's been there for how many weeks?)
It went up this morning in place of the MeTa heading. Matt then changed it so that MeTa and AskMeFi could be on the heading.

Whats this pancake business all about?
Also, I noticed it yesterday and I think it's only been on for at most a few days.

Dang, do I HAVE to read EVERY stupid-ass MetaTalk thread to know what's going on?

I added it this morning, as a temp fix until a new design gets worked in.

You could just read all of Matt's new comments daily.
In fact, someone could automate that and turn it into a sort of second-hand .plan thing.
MattFilter.

I kept clicking "Post a Link" out of habit thinking it was MeTa. Damn you Haughey!
Yeah, that's exactly what happened to me.

I noticed the new arrangement this morning and thought how nice! Now in order to get to Ask Me, I will not have to go to MeTa and risk getting bogged down in the boyish badinage - and yet, here I am.

For a minute there I thought I was looking at MeTa when I was really looking at AskMe, and I thought, "Hey, those threads don't belong there......oh."

Obviously, instead of complaining to MetaTalk, we are to post a new link.

mathowie said in the thread I tried but failed to destroy: I wonder if I finally broke down and built the chatfilter I never wanted to build (but everyone seems to want), but made it part of a mefi pro (at say $3-$4/month)-- if anyone would use it, and if so, would it really keep other sections of the site much clearer of folks chewing fat in the breeze? I dunno.
I'd support that idea - premium-members-only access to an unmodded-Filter. You could even put deleted threads behind this "wall", AskMe, MeTa AND the MeFi threads that currently blemish the LoFi page. It could take some pressure off Matt, neaten up the "public" face of the site and give the MeFi hardcore a place where they won't be hosed out to the street. You could call it MetaFilter EXTREEEEME!!! and color the page Buzz Bunny Black.
Of course, this is not MY site, and Matt usually doesn't like my ideas (TellMeFi... TellMeFi... TellMeFi...)

This thread is totally unnecessary makes the baby jesus cry.
And, if I recall correctly, wendell, it was dhartung that came up with the TellMe name. For what it's worth.

If TellMeFi isn't used, it really is a weeping syzygy of blebs.

The redesign has been active for 3 days, now. In the end Matt changed his mind and opted for my redesign that is very very similar but subtly different to the original. Step one was to rotate the colours of the individual sections one place to the "right" (blue --> MeTa, grey --> AskMe, green --> MeFi). Step two was to rotate the titles of each section two places to the "left". Do you like it? Can't wait to get hold of my iPod.

My bad, wonderchicken, you're right. TellMeFi wasn't my idea, and I do need to give Mad Props and Greg Proops to dhartung for it, but I think I was the one who lobbied the hardest for it (which certainly doomed it). For what it's worth, I do admit when I'm wrong... three times a year at most.

Yeah, that's the funniest thing about it - clicking that top-page link after reading the front page was so habitual that I didn't even realize I'd done it. I just thought "Why the hell did I want to Post a new Link?" The second and third times I wound up there, though, I at least grasped how it had happened.

Muscle memory, or whatever you call it, is much-discussed in UI development. This is a nice demonstration of it.

Re: Muscle memory - what's really pathetic is when I click on "Post a Link" while thinking "Oh yeah, the MetaTalk link isn't there anymore, don't click that," but my fingers still go ahead and do it as though they don't have to listen to me.
Impertinent fingers...! One of these days I'll make you pay for this insubordination!
