BBbuddy questions March 16, 2005 5:58 AM Subscribe
So. Omega has a wonderful FPP about BBbuddy, and now I'm tempted to join BBbuddy because I like the concept.
So here are two questions:
BBbuddy allows the creation of labels, and I think Metafilter should have one... what would we like it to be? "Mefi"? "Metafilter"? Should Metatalk and AskMefi have separate labels?
In order to track one's posts, it appears that BBbuddy asks its users to insert a link into the posts users wish to archive. Are there bandwidth implications for Metafilter if large numbers of Mefites become BBbuddy users? Are there other concerns?

From my del.icio.us observations "mefi" trumps "metafilter".

"In order to track one's posts ..."
... and I thought I was an egotist.

If your standard post has three needless paragraph breaks in it, maybe they're not worth tracking.

soyjoy, please be more pathetic and sad. I realize this might be difficult for you, but I'd like to see if it's even possible. I can't imagine the situation in which it would occur to me drop an eighth-grade diss on someone who asked a reasonably reasonable question and who I wasn't already in an argument with, so plumbing the full depths of your petty and small-minded self should be enlightening.

As opposed to an unreasonably reasonable question ...
Or perhaps, a reasonably unreasonable question?

kavasa, I said nothing about whether the question was reasonable or even reasonably unreasonable. Taking up half the screen for no reason, though, is unreasonable. That was my reason. What was yours?

Wow, you totally don't understand what I said. Sad faces forever.
How about I state this way: insulting people, even if your insults are limp and shameful, for asking a question is basically the nadir of existence, and you should hang yourself.
My reason was to make myself feel better by taking cheap shots at people (in this case, you) who are below me on the totem pole.
Notice how I split each sentence other than the first two into its own paragraph?
Since you felt it worth remarking on in the first place, I'm hoping it sends you into such a fit of crying/sneezing rage that you choke on your diet coke.

lets get back on topic.
I created a couple of labels: "MeFi" and "MeFi Comments".
Labels work better if people agree on a taxonomy.
SilusGROK, if you want to use a "metafilter" or whatever its cool, ill just edit mine. Like I said its better if people can agree on a taxonomy.
The biggest label right now only has 7 posts. We can make "MeFi" the biggest in no time. Especially with silus, it looks like he posts alot.

Good thing soyjoy didn't insult you for asking a question, but rather for the way that you formatted your question.
As he has explained.
Missing his point the first time was understandable. Soyjoy was terse and if you were reading quickly you could mistake it for simple snark. Fine. He explained further.
You were expected to get it at this point, but you inexplicably failed to do so. Hence this second explanation, which, as it is being written by a person who writes explanations for a living, may be clearer, although I didn't see anything all that unclear to begin with in soyjoy's original explanation.
Failure to understand this professionally-written explanation will open you up to extreme mockery, not that you have not already opened yourself up to this by incorrectly suggesting that soyjoy hang himself for a reason that has nothing to do with anything he said. In any case you should conisder carefully before deciding to misunderstand this second, professional explanation.

You're right, omega... the taxonomy is a b. It always is... of course, I'm a stickler for that kind of thing, so I thought I'd float the question to the crew. Apparently folks here are more interested in snarking than answering, so I guess that whatever we decide is good...
I wonder, though, if bbbuddy is considering a controlled vocabulary? Tangentially, I wonder if they've considered taking synonyms and tying them to a single label? Hm. Maybe I should ask them.
My biggest concern was whether anyone could foresee bandwidth issues (or other headaches) for master Haughey should this little phenomenon take off. Oh well.

I dont think that will be a problem. I doesnt seem like bbBuddy is a place where people will go to see out other peoples posts. That is, it seems more of a personal type of thing. It seems to me that its more of a tool than a website. However, thats just my interpretation.

Why do we suddenly trust bbBuddy's continued existence more than MetaFilter's?

bbBuddy will supply you with a custom HTML link you should add to your signature on each board that you visit.
Uh, no.

bbBuddy will supply you with a custom HTML link you should add to your signature on each board that you visit.
From the FAQ it says the purpose of the link is so you have quick access to the bbBuddy page where you add your post.
When you review the message that you just posted, copy it and then click the link in your signature. This link will take you directly to the bbBuddy webpage where you paste in the content of your original post
So clearly it has a purpose, other than free advertising. Meh

I think your missing the point.

Point of order. It wasn't kavasa's question. It was silusGROK's. You're right, though, kindall. People do need to pay more attention in threads ;)
