I'm not completely sure who is babysitting Metafilter while Matt has way more important things going on, but I just wanted to say "Thanks" to whomever is keeping an eye on things and also "Thanks" to the community for (apparently) keeping the chaos to a minimum while he's away.
Metafilter is the #3 Google search result for JRun errors.

Mostly, I was inspired to post this because after I started getting JRuns this morning I figured the site was going to be down for days. I was thrilled when the site came back up this afternoon.

Nice! Looks like Macro-dobe's own info on the error is the only thing rated higher.
/Wishes Matt would just switch over to PHP already.

If he didn't have the chance to switch over to PHP before the baby, what makes you hink he'll be able to now?
Let's just hope he remembers that with babies, rebooting is not a good option.

With some of the dustups occurring yesterday I wouldn't be surprised if Matt let the JRun error continue for so long on purpose just to give some folks a chance to cool off without Matt having to get involved.

caddis: i thought that thread was fairly civil...and it seems like dfowler cooled off and is back to his usual interesting posts...Mayor Curley seems to have found the inherent humor in all of this too...
The only question that remains...is dfowler also mcgraw? Or was it a temporary possession and the demons have been exorcised? Best of thread?

Because some enterprising, altruistic members around here might be willing to do all the code for him out of the goodness in their hearts. I'm sure he's already had several offers, I think his reluctance is that he would then be reliant on somebody else to fix any problems that might arise, or would have to teach himself the language with the hours and hours of spare time he's got these days.
Matt let the JRun error continue for so long on purpose just to give some folks a chance to cool off
That there's what we call an undocumented feature.

You really don't want to see what's under that cover. Trust me. It's worse than the fish—much worse.

People have already re-implemented mefi in other languages and put the results under open source licenses.
Also, matt is working on some super-l33t new version which should be unvailed several months ago with a new design.

I stopped by the house this morning for a quick shower and email check, where upon I rebooted the server. Jessamyn has delete access and has probably caught any double posts in the past couple days.

A relatively long period, compared to others. Love the personal nature of the communal site, honest, but dang it has its tradeoffs.

Maybe it's only me (though I doubt it), but MeFi is unaccessible for at least some period of time on pretty much a daily basis. I am often online when the Americas are sleeping, however, so maybe it's not noticed as much. Eurofites? — Matteo? Dabitch? Seanyboy? Dodgy? Dashie? Do you guys notice this? Asian contingent? Dudes DownUnder?

I mean, I had to work anyway, but, like, I had to work.
Just don't do it again Matt, or you get a time-out.
Also, congratulations.
