Didn't you used to do ads for pets.com?

Hey, TDDL here. That's my roomate trying to be a jerk. Feel free to kick him, whatever. I've personally gone and kicked his tail for using my computer when I walked out, but if the community wants him off MeFi that's great with me. I can enforce.

In fact, please lower the banhammer. $5 should at least slow him down. Sorry to everyone for letting him on MeFi. I share an apartment out here (housing is expensive in CA) and we jerk each other around in real life, didn't think he'd take it online. I'm SO gonna kill him.

I've got some "before" pics, will get some "after" shortly.

Uh, tddl, what exactly are you upset about? I'm confused.

My roommate has her own computer and she's free to disagree with me anywhere she wants to. Instead though she'll come in here and interrupt me when I'm arguing with you guys. Would I be allowed to spend $5 on a Mefi gift account for her?

And by the way, I don't think either of you did anything ban-worthy -- but then I tend to be a little uh "liberal" about the "guidelines".

Uh, tddl, what exactly are you upset about? I'm confused.

He'd just logged in on my computer and so a post over in the other is my words under his username. That caused me great distress, but I agree that he has a right to his own opinions (no matter how different from mine they may be).

I guess you have a point that nothing that bad has been done other than logging in on my computer and not asking, which is entirely an offline offense that has nothing to do with the community.

That said, maybe no banhammer. Sorry if I get ya banned! I'll leave it up to Matt and Jessamyn.

tddl, let me know when you are throwing the blanket party for your roomate.
posted by mlis at 9:23 PM on May 24, 2005

hmm.

Ya know what?

Even though I pegged this guy as a false-flag agent provaceteur or however you spell that damn french word I'm going to not leap to conclusions and assume you're lying about this "room-mate".

The parsiminous explanation is simply you got your socks mixed up. But I'm going to give you more slack than you give anybody else here and discount this possibility.

I think I get accused of trolling often enough around here without having to waste $5 to get accused more. It's pretty much a daily occurance, in fact.

Old pic of the two of us eating dinner at home together, freshly labelled for your pleasure.

I don't doubt you have a room-mate; I doubt your explanation of how a tddl post got tagged with BushisForEating name.

BushIsForEating at 8:16 PM
thedevildancedlightly at 8:29 PM
BushIsForEating at 8:30 PM
BushIsForEating at 8:43 PM (but really you)
thedevildancedlightly at 8:51 PM calling out BIFE as a prank

Like I said, the parsimonious explanation is that the same person on your computer made the 8:29 PM, 8:30 PM, and the 8:43 posts here.

But I take you at your word that you are an honest person and would not lie about this.

Heywood, from what you are posting it looks like comments have already been airbrushed. Do you have a local copy? Kwantsar, local copy of the offending comments? Anyone?

I dunno if you were around when it was popular, but remember "baggy pants-ing?" You know, somebody leaves their terminal unlocked and a smartass comes up and writes an email to everyone (or changes .plan) along the lines of "My pants are so baggy."

I leave my laptop out a lot, without a screensaver password. My roomie uses it sometimes, no problems (except when I find Craigslist "casual encounters" in the history, then I laugh). He used it to post on MeFi after I walked away, I guess at 8:30. I came back and posted without realizing he had logged in and failed to log out. I don't sit by my computer all the time when I'm at home, and it tends to get used by everyone in the house.

If you want to ban us both that's fine, but I don't know how I can prove anything here.

That, or I can try to drag him to the next Bay Area meetup that doesn't conflict with work.

Heywood, from what you are posting it looks like comments have already been airbrushed.

Check your timezones and adjust accordingly. I think everything is still there. If any of the admins were around they would have dealt with this thread.

That said, can I put in a motion for Matt or Jessamyn to drop me or Jeff an email if they want to talk and to close the thread?
posted by thedevildancedlightly at 10:02 PM on May 24, 2005

Ok, I'll close it. Sounds like the guy will cool it, if not I'll do something about it.
