In my experience, the exact phrase search for AskMe usually times out when searching through "answers only" or "questions and answers." I assume this is simply due to the size of the data. I'd hate to see this functionality disappear, as Google is pretty useless for AskMe. If a dedicated MetaFilter Search Cluster is not an option, perhaps we could have a way to specify date ranges?

Maybe someone with bandwidth, time and skill (and Matt's permission) can spider all the archived threads and then based upon the structure of the content, code neat searching filters, at the archive site. Then Matt can link to that search engine (for archived threads).

Google's not useless for someone who does more than one search and recognizes the value of information similar but not identical to the information they seek.

By "Google is pretty useless for AskMe," I probably meant something like "Google does not reliably index much of AskMe." Yahoo seems to do somewhat better.

Yahoo does a much better job indexing MeFi et. al. I've all but given up on the Google search "feature" in the search page.
