discrepancy June 25, 2005 9:57 AM   Subscribe

Lately, there has been some discrepancy between number of "new questions/comments posted" in MetaTalk, and what I'm seeing highlighted on the page as new questions or comments. Until now, it hasn't been such a big difference to really annoy me, but at the moment, I see "There has been 1 new question and 12 comments posted since your last visit", but only two threads are highlighted as having new comments (one each).

People are still posting in the MetaTalk 9622 thread.

In my experience, in the past, the display page of Metatalk only counted the new posts/comments for that display.

This difference may have to do with the way pagination is working now, and maybe the count display and the page display are no longer synchronized. ??

Yup.

The bright side is, threads like 9622 never exist, so the count will be far more appropriate when the 30 days are up.

Nope, it always counted comments that were off the page, you just never had any way of finding them before. The front page was the only place that displayed new counts.

Now you do have a way of knowing new counts on old posts, by using the pagination. If you page through enough and keep track of the counts, you'll see that they're all there, eventually.

The count display and the page display were never synchronized, evidently, but it was always pretty much equal as long as the old threads could only be accessed via archives.
