Maine Meetup? July 26, 2005 11:34 AM   Subscribe

Is there any interest in a Maine (or perhaps "Northern New England) meetup in Portland sometime in September?

Yes. Portsmouth could be nice, too (for the Beaners).

Yes, though Portsmouth is closer by about two hours for me. Late September is better for me.

for the Beaners

I was thinking that Friendly Toast in Portsmouth might be good if we needed to move South a bit, although there are a bunch of us in Portland.

I don't get what "for the Beaners" means, though... ??

"for the Beaners" --> for those of us from Beantown.

Bostonians, anastasiav.

And you guys misinterpreted my Peaks Island remark in the other thread - I wasn't just on Peaks, a friend of ours was.

That said, the wife and I do enjoy going to both Portsmouth and Portland, so we'll keep it in mind if something does take place.

Keep moving it south, to, say, Hartford, and I'm in.

I'm in for Maine or New Hampshire. Probably not Connecticut.

Then why the Friendly Toast? If I'm going to a Maine meetup, there better be sombreros. Can some place in Portsmouth give me the Allen's and milk that I need to feel like a Mainer?

If it was in Portland, and someplace I liked (i.e. within stumbling distance of the ferry terminal), I'd probably show up. I'm unbelievably lazy though, so I don't think even I would count on me.

Also, yhbc: Tell everyone you know to stay the hell off my island. And if they were here for Reggae Sunday, that goes double. :-)

Or, beaners could mean these Beans of Maine, or even these! ;-)

How about Portland Flatbread Company? I'd like to avoid the usual bars (Gritty's, Dewey's, etc) if possible....

Mmm... tasty pizza. I'm fine with that.

No, thank God. There's a Flatbread company in Portsmouth as well. And Redhook fits for larger parties. Downtown there are plenty of good options out on The Decks.

anastasiav: If it was at Flatbread, I'd definitely go. That would be a great place for it. I am a hopeless flatbread junkie. :-)

Always looking for a good reason to head north - I'd love to try to make it in later September.

I'm iffy at this point -- I may be starting my vacation that day, but if I'm still around, I'll be there.

I'm in!

I 'll be there, and we should ask them to stock the Allen's coffee brandy so the Mayor can come. Rusty, just shoot them - that's why it's called tourist season.

I'd be okay with Portsmouth, as well. Excellent idea; thanks, Anastasia!

The 17th is the day after my wedding. So I probably won't come anyway. But I'll think about you all, Mainers.

I thought they were called Maniacs.

Only for tourists.

Wrote the date on my calender. I'll be there barring the Great Munjoy Hill fire of 2005.

I've entered it in my datebook. Very pleased!

I can be the requisite noob at whom pizza crusts are hurled.

Ah, crap, Jess, I'm sorry. Rats.

Wish I could go - my folks have a place on Sebago in Naples that I am missing desperately right now....ayuh.

It's a wee bit too far in advance for us to make definite plans, but Robocop and I are interested. I'm from Maine and enjoy dragging him up there whenever we have a good excuse (especially if it doesn't involve the requisite family visits).

I'm in Portsmouth -- if I'm free the 17th I'll go up to Portland. I always like a good excuse to go up there.

For future discussions, though, I wouldn't choose the decks in Portsmouth for a meetup. They're way too crowded, and too tightly seated, for an amorphous number of people to gather. There are plenty of other good spots, though.

Miko, you're not trying hard enough. You just have to push and shove a bit and stare at encroachers. Plus you're not stuck at one place.

Having reviewed the comments, I suppose I'll be travelling back from the lousy Mayor's wedding and am out as well. Damn your worthless hide.

Yeah -- I have too much pent-up hostility inside me to mess with that stuff. That's why I like the mellow places.
