Metafilter: a blog dedicated to identifying our reptilian overlords
Writing purportedly about the Nashville bomber, yahoo! news reporter Caitlin Dickinson revealed our true purpose.
Rule #2. There is No MetaFilter

"Metafilter: a conceptually ambitious ad for Olive Garden."

made me realize that MetaFilter may be part of a deep state operation... We now stand 19 years, 9 months and 7 days where MetaFilter has been potentially prepping an entire generation with a ... different sort of FUD... What are your Metafilter conspiracy theories? Is Johnny Wallflower actually a selection of dogs and cats carefully stacked on eachother's shoulders and wearing clothes doing their best to impersonate a human? What do you know that folks should know about the Cabal MetaFilter? Time to don your tinfoil hats folks...
Where's my question?
I posted a question in AskMeFi and can't find it. What gives? [more inside]
Crazy approval
Somebody wiped a handful of crazy on this thread.
Sidebarred comment about Intentional Instability Model is a conspiracy theory
I see that jefgodesky's summary of Jeff Vail's "Intentional Instability Model" has been linked to the sidebar. I suppose this is somewhat subjective, but I'd describe it as a conspiracy theory backed by no evidence whatsoever, not really the best of MetaFilter.
The historical description of British policy also seems completely bogus to me. The British regarded the Middle East as their lifeline to India. It makes no sense for them to have deliberately set up Iraq to fail.

An FPP is not a place for them to make a point. It is a place to share.
Mischaracterizing the link. Trying to prove a conspiracy. Rampant editorializing. Effective double posts due to retread of the same discussions/topics being made by the same users. These things make for crappy posts. They would not occur if people would learn that a front page Metafilter post is not a place for them to make a point. It is a place to share .
Worst post ever? Check.
Worst post ever? Single link: Check. Editorializing: Check. Conspiracy Theory: Check. Google-as-evil-censor subtext: check.
How about less conspiracy posts?
American concentration camps! Rex 84 and the trifecta of evil! How about less conspiracy posts? I'm pretty sure there are more that have already fallen off the front page, but, sheesh.
consI/Parcy theory
Are we allowing ConspiracyTheoryFilter to stay on the front page now? That's how it strikes me.
conspiracy + conspiracy = truth
I want to take issue with this post. The seemingly innocuous way greatgefilte couples the public acknowledgement of a conspiracy another, speculative one is a disingenuous way to lend credibility to a (what is in my opinion) a particularly slanderous myth. [more inside]
Are conspiracy posts appropriate?
Are baseless conspiracy theories appropriate MetaFilter threads?
The Grand Liberal Metafilter Conspiracy
The Grand Liberal Metafilter Conspiracy. Step inside, won't you?
Facts v Conspiracy theory
I feel like all I've done here today is bounce from thread to thread trying to remind people the difference between news/facts and rumor/speculation/conspiracy theory.
Are people really so ready to believe just about anything? Or is the thrill of posting the latest outrageous tidbit on the front page too damn hard to resist?
