"If you absolutely must post another link within 24 hrs, email me the post for approval." [more inside]
What are the limits to absolute hilarity when "in bad taste" comes into play before posting something to the blue? I ask because I'm itching to share this video with everyone. It's wholly repugnant, but ridiculously high on the Unintentional Comedy Scale. [more inside]
I've largely refrained from joining the chorus asking for some sort of throttle (one post per week, 2/3 posts per week, waiting period for newcomers, etc.), but Jiminy Christmas: Eight front page posts in half an hour? (number one, number eight.) Are you going to implement any of these post-flow-control ideas, Matt, or are we going to become "MetaFilter: A Firehose For The Thirsty"
does one get notified before one is banned from posting from mefi? a friend is wondering.
Vertical space at a premium, yet long FPPs still happen. How about a count on the characters in the textarea (server side probably better) and a warning like "Are you really sure all this text needs to be on the front page? Have you considered the [more inside] technique?"
Remedies for over-posters urgently needed. Please bear with me and take the time to advise.
I don't know who this "mathowie" character is, but he appears to have found a way to get past the one-post-every-24-hours limitation, posting two front-page threads within an hour of each other- probably with some super-sophisticated hack or something. Someone better close this loophole before other people start exploiting it!
semper has posted three links in four hours. A bit excessive, neh?
There have been two people today who have posted two links on the front page. (one being a double post) How do you think limiting people to one front page post a day would work out? Or maybe even one every three days? a week?
The best case for a MeFi waiting period I've ever seen Survivorcam 2 gets mentioned, 3-4 people (at last count) sign up to create a stupid thread. Anyone want to invite the good people at Slashdot over?
jbou sure is enthusiastic....three front page posts just this afternoon. And, natch, no e-mail address to mention this to him offline.
Since we're on something of a war footing here, can I suggest some kind of rationing to, say, one front-page post a day? I know that MiguelCardoso simply mucked up the URL on his last topic, but it just makes it harder to follow the active discussions...
I'm pretty new around here, and for the most part, I think metafilter is great, but the signal to noise ratio is lower than it might be. I have an idea...
