Closing Your Community Right: Jessamyn interviewed
A podcast where Jessamyn is interviewed by Patrick O'Keefe about the experiences around an online community (mlkshk) closing down and what happens afterwards. There is much on moderating, membership, community issues and service shuttering procedures within, as well as discussion of death/the passing of people, how this impacts on online communities and how moderators and community members deal with it. The page contains many MetaFilter-related links and a link to the transcript.

Overmoderation.
Hi there, mods. Yes, you. Mathowie, jessamyn and cortex. Please stop closing MeTa threads so early and so often. I think you're forgetting the "community" part. [more inside]
Closing Dates for Jobs
In the Jobs section: it would be nice if closing dates for jobs was a field to be filled in and displayed within the post. Barring that, this is a request for job posters to not post something if the closing date is the very next day, as was the first posting in this post (imo, even a weeks notice is difficult, but that's more debatable). This applies especially if you have to dig to find the information.
Close the thread
I think it might be time to put this thread to bed. The poster has now said that the answers have helped her get what she was looking for. The only purpose that is served by keeping it open is to invite namecalling.
Closing AskMe Threads
Do AskMetafilter questions not close to new comments after 30 days the way Metatalk & Metafilter do?
Please let us metatalk more.
Matt, with all respect, could you not close Metatalk threads immediately after you weigh in on the topic? Maybe set a two-hour timer or something?
I thought the thread closing feature was supposed to be applied to bug reports, where there's nothing to talk about after the bug is fixed. But it seems to be applied to lots of "etiquette/policy" threads nowadays. Your voice should be heard, but it shouldn't be the last word on a controversial topic.

Metatalk thread closing is the worst thing ever.
Metatalk thread closing is the worst thing ever. Just as threads are getting entertaining, the discussion supposedly somehow has ended. It never works; Either someone posts a new thread where the same discussion continues or we're just deprived of some funny comments.
This doesn't look quite right...

HTML Tidy
I realize I'm probably the last person on the web to have noticed this program, but HTML Tidy is pretty cool. It's an open source utility for cleaning up HTML: closing mismatched tags, etc. It seems that Haughey currently has to go in at times and close tags that posters leave open. I wonder if filtering entries through a program like this could save him from that chore. I'm sure this isn't the only utility of its type; does anyone know of others?
