Closing Dates for Jobs January 25, 2007 1:48 PM   Subscribe

In the Jobs section: it would be nice if closing dates for jobs was a field to be filled in and displayed within the post. Barring that, this is a request for job posters to not post something if the closing date is the very next day, as was the first posting in this post (imo, even a weeks notice is difficult, but that's more debatable). This applies especially if you have to dig to find the information.

I suspect there's no practical solution to way-too-short-notice postings—that's just a common sense failure:

- compulsory close dates don't make sense because not all jobs will have one
- without a compulsory close date, users won't be compelled to include a close date

QED.

Now, a more aggressive means of delisting closed jobs might be good, but that too would need to be userdriven and probably isn't enforcable. I dunno.

(To be clear, I mean that short-notice postings are the common sense failure [or limited returns gamble], not that your suggestion is one.)

A close date filed would work if there was an "ongoing" option. Not saying that people wouldn't auto select "ongoing" rather than fill in the pertinent details. But such a blatant misuse could then be deleted when noticed. Guess I posted this because I was mildly interested in the potion that was closed, but a day to get everything together to apply was simple undoable. Ah well
