What happened to text copy on iPad?

Sometime in about the last week, the ability to copy text, say, from a comment or a post, has been lost on my iPad. If I try to copy text, I am confronted with only the choice to copy an image—an image that appears to be the blue background. I am no longer able to select or copy text in either Safari or Chrome on iOS (iPad in my case). I have tested several other sites and this frustrating deficit seems to be limited to metafilter. Have somehow, after years of participation with iPad somehow lost my way?

Minorest pony request! Natural-language new-comments cue

It must be the old UX instincts acting up in me, but I'm finally moved to ask about a feature of the beloved site which has been irking me for quite some time: the clipped engineerese in which the notice "7 new comments — show" is expressed. [more inside]

I'm sure I saw it around here somewhere...

I'm trying to find a post from wherein someone described a strategy of inserting deliberate and glaring errors into advertising copy (or possibly, web page design) so that the customer would find them, correct them and leave the bulk of the work untouched. [more inside]

Many versions of the same thing

I like the FPPs that have many versions of the same thing, such as this cups and balls post. I'm sure I've seen others in the past, but I can't remember them, and the search engine is letting me down. Are there any other FPPs that have many versions of the same thing - song, short film, etc?

Contact form to MeFi Mail

When I use the Contact form, the content of my message vanishes in a black hole at the center of a nearby galaxy. Would it be possible to forward a copy to my Sent Mail box in MefiMail?

Detynt detente

When crafting a front page post, you may end up using the copy/paste feature of your OS. Some web sites are using Tynt to track copying and insert links and other useless info into your clipboard. John Gruber discusses the annoyance that Tynt causes and how to cut it off at the start.

Tell me something I don't already know

F-f-front page is stuttering. (In case it's just me: OS X, Firefox.) [more inside]

Is an Infoviz of MetaFilter copying, stealing, or remixing?

I wanted to take one of AskMeFi's most awesome threads (the one about life-altering experiences) and turn it into an art project. This project is already done, except that nobody knows about it. Here is the link. I am using copies of almost every single post in that thread. This is potentially problematic. I'm asking the MetaFilter Community here, what do you think? [more inside]

Don't post threads about posting MeMail in threads without the sender's explicit permission without an admin's explicit permission.

Amazon's Askville

I got an email from Amazon regarding a new question-asking site called Askville. So far it doesn't seem as nice as our own AskMe, but I thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention.

Is it okay to lift meterial from a blog?

Um. If someone admits in an FPP that most of the material was lifted from a blog, is it time for an upside-down pitchfork party?

Don't copy the article, link to it

When y2karl quotes 4000 words of an article, it's really annoying. Just link to it. Thanks.

Copying text from an article as FPP?

Is it considered bad form to engage in Slashdot style summaries? [rant inside]

Who are they and why are they copying MeFi?

Weird one:
Whilst googling for "MetaFilter Network LLC" [I was wondering how long Mefi had been so incorporated] I came across this page [google cache - they don't need the traffic.]
It appends a whole thread from ask.me on the end of their plain old links page of mortgage brokers - including the source code.

Iowa blog copies MeFi comments?

WTF? About halfway down this page, the comments start to get a little, er, familiar... Anyone know what's up? (And yes, I did find that by searching for "ASMED".)

I would like to set up my computer so it captures images of MeFi throughout the day.

I would like to set up my computer so it captures images of MeFi throughout the day. I am hoping to save local copies of comments/posts that are later deleted. Is there a way to do this?

nice link, stolen material

This comment directs us to brainyencyclopedia.com which presents a thourough, detailed biography of Stanislaw Lem. Of course, it's a copied Wikipedia article.

Italic tags

Looks like Metafilter didn't drink its V8 today. Close your italics tags, people!

Localised MetaFilter

Considering the exponential growth of online community sites like Mefi and Blogger, do you think that one day Metafilter will be (or should be) cloned as localized versions of the site? nyc.metafilter.com, etc.

What site was this??

I discovered a web site a while back whose URL I seem to have lost. It was a site that exposed web design thieves by posting screenshots of their sites next to similar, older, better known designs.

Anyone know what site this is?
