Where have all the new posts gone?

I've been looking for distraction for quite some time, but checking metafilter regularly for the last five hours has yielded nothing - just KernType lingering at the top. No new posts. Very disheartening. But it did lead me to wonder - what's the longest period of time between new metafilter posts that has occurred in recent years? All time? Same questions for ask and meta, though at least in my limited experience there's very little downtime between ask questions and there can be days without a meta post.

AskMeFi Deprivation

Why doesn't my question show up directly at ask.metafilter.com? Did they change their policy? How do I get my question to show up at the main site.

Time delay between registration and FPP?

Has the time delay between registration and the ability to make a front-page post been eliminated? I don't mean to pick on a new member's first front-page post on his second day, but unless new folks read the guidelines or hang around to see what makes a good front-page post before making their own, I expect we'll be seeing more posts like this.

Just made an FPP, but it hasn't shown up on the front page.

My AIM neighbor has an anonymous question pending with AskMe.

My AIM neighbor has an anonymous question pending with AskMe. How long does that take? If it gets kicked out for some reason, is questioner notified? He/she has asked me to ask this for the sake of his/her anonymity.

How long do we wait for what's inside?

So here's a minor issue, strictly for decompression purposes: How long should we wait for someone to post his/her "More Inside" supplement? Matt recently rebuked ZachsMind and indeed deleted his offending comment because he leapt too soon, saying: "(...)you didn't wait until I had gotten my chance to finish my "more" post(...)". Yesterday y2Karl played the same trick on me.

Should it be ten or fifteen minutes? Or doesn't it matter? My own opinion is that one should just wait until the supplement is posted - unless it's demonstrably not forthcoming. Isn't jumping the gun just another version of annoying, pre-emptive thread sabotage? Or is it, somehow, fun?

Delay of allowing comments pony?

Stop me if you've heard this one before...

A lot of angst/anxiety/breast-beating/whining/etc. has been made over the apparent knee-jerk quality of the responses to FPPs. People rush to get that first (usually obvious, especially if obvious) witty/snarky comment in, often resulting in thread hijack. This can happen within seconds of the original post, making the likelyhood that the commentor has actually looked at/read the FPP's link(s) highly questionable. Perhaps this could be remedied by instituting a "No Comment Period"? A delay of say an hour or so before anyone was allowed to post a comment, during which time people who were interested could read the links and assemble their responses/comments. (More inside)
