Deleting meta-commentary without just silencing pile-on victims?

I discovered the metacommentary deletion policy under less than great circumstances. Can we talk about how to enforce that policy with a little less collateral damage? Maybe by better documentation, or user education? [more inside]

MaTe MeTa

Looking for some advice given by commenters on MetaFilter (pretty sure it was the blue) about maths teaching. The advice wasn't specifically requested itself, just a response to the subject of the post—presumably maths education related somehow, though I've searched through a bunch of threads and haven't found them. Perhaps someone has the comments favourited and will know what I'm referring to. [more inside]

First Metafilter BDSM Symposium

In the interest of improving the quality of discourse in BDSM/kink-related threads on the Blue, may we talk about some common misconceptions about BDSM? Perhaps if some MeFite kinksters/allies are willing, we can do some Q&A about BDSM, kink, and "the scene". [more inside]

Anyone taking any of the free Stanford classes?

The next round of free Stanford classes have been starting up at Coursera. Is anyone taking any of them? How is it going for you? Anybody want to start a mefi study group?

MeFi U

Would anyone be interested in creating a Metafilter University? What I mean is a series of courses (or they could be short, TED-like lectures) specially geared towards Metafilter members? By which I mean they'd be more than just videos posted to YouTube. There would be some way for members to interact with the lecturer (and other members) about the course. [more inside]

No Child Left politically unmanipulated

I unintentionally derailed a really good thread about involving inmates in arts programs to combat recidivism by talking about how resistance to inmate programs is partially fueled by community frustration with collapsing opportunities for art in schools. The flash phrase was No Child Left Behind. So, can we bring the NCLB rage here and get back to talking about art in prisons there?

Seeking an old post

Can anyone guide me to a post about USian education in which it was described how the POTUS met with business leaders to determine the course of public education in the U.S.? I think they were events that happened during or just after the industrial revolution.

Clueing people in about the title field and RSS?

Is it possible to reach these people about the tasty moral goodness of using the title field properly - BEFORE they hit the submit button? The one at a time approach seems counterintuitive.

AskMe mentionned in a Reddit post.

From a front-page post on Reddit this morning, here's a "Massive list of sites all self learners should know about" that includes a link to Ask Mefi, under "Questions"

September 11th Thread

Thought you guys might be interested to know I just taught Sept 11 to my american history class by reading the first 60 or so comments from this thread. It was a near perfect capturing of that day for those too young to really understand what was going on

How has your education benefited you?

Educated MeFites: (This is for my wife who teaches at an inner-city elementary school.)

Would anyone be willing to write a "properly written" paragraph about how your education has greatly benefited you?

We would like to inspire our 5th graders, most of whom believe that learning isn't cool. This is for English language learners, ie. Mexican, Vietnamese, Eastern European, etc, who are just now learning paragraphs and the need for further education.

Post here or my e-mail is in my profile.

Disclaimer: Meta-related because you folks are cool and smart. This is not a project or an AskMe, unless you suggest otherwise.
