You’re Not the Customer; You’re the Product
Quote Investigator looks at the history of this quotation: Richard Serra? Carlota Fay Schoolman? Steve Atkins? Tom Johnson? Andrew Lewis? blue_beetle? Tim O’Reilly?
A kind of supernatural resonance online
Derek Powazek, editor at the Fray does not agree with BlueBeetle's famous MetaFilter comment: "If you are not paying for it, you're not the customer; you're the product being sold." In a follow up post he suggests an alternative: “If you don’t know how a startup will make money, neither do they.”

Policy on single link product FPPs
This is a bad post. I don't dislike single FPPs, but a single link that points to a single product for sale on the internet, with no extra information or interesting stuff...is not in any way showing the best of the internet. There are hundreds of these for sale from all sorts of companies, and they've been around for a long, long time.
To top it all off, I question that and my post (containing one word: "Spamfilter?") was apparently removed. I can deal with that, but the issue at heart still exists.

Product review subsection
As a consumer, I've had a few very good and very bad experiences with service providers, recently. It'd be great if MetaFilter had a subsection to share these experiences to help the community share the joy and avoid the pain. Reviewing products and services where more people will see them is great way to improve services for everyone, and would have the potential for greater effect than discussing these things on our own weblogs. Perhaps this would be another way to harness the community positively in the way Ask MetaFilter has. How about it?
FPP to an awesome product (not mine)?
So say I find a product on the web...I buy said product, and it is revolutionary for its purpose (using your mouse...it is a combo of mouse pad/teflon feet/teflon wax from the same company), would it be wrong/shameless to link said product on MetaFilter? (I am in no way related to this company other than I bought the products and I find them to be truly amazing). I simply want to share the love with any gamers/designers that could benefit from its use.

How about a little meat to go with that book?
