Metatalk doesn't want me to be me!!!
I'm logged into Metafilter as myself (Ramix) however when I click on the metatalk/askme links from Metfilter, it shows me logged in as user oxfcaf. Strangely though it shows me logged in as ramix as i am posting this thread. However when i navigate to askme from this posting page (metatalk) it shows me logged in as oxfcaf! What's going on?
AskMe Proxies?
Did anyone else get an email yesterday from "a new member" saying you had a "friendly profile" and asking you to post a question for him since he'd "just joined" and couldn't yet post an askme? Monochromaticgirl and I both did and thought it was odd--especially since we don't have very friendly profiles.
Maybe we're just jerks, but we thought it was odd.

Can someone post an AskMe for me?
We just got this request a bit ago, but I'm afraid I must make a similar one. Can someone post an AskMe for me? I've got a time sensitive question and AskMe tends to be the best place to get good help [more inside]
Worldproofing link submissions
Tech point. When previewing and checking a link, could the check be through a 'vanilla' proxy machine with no cookies etc.? That way logon/password and regional barriers would be evident. I'm thinking of links to sites like The London Times which has regional restrictions and subscription sites for which I have a members cookie (even though I may have forgotten this). Just because my machine can link doesn't mean that yours can.
