2016 Election Prediction Contest results
Back in January, on the eve of the Iowa caucuses, I set up an election prediction contest for you fine folks, and got 74 ballots in response. Nearly ten months (and ten million comments) later, the results are in: congratulations to Cash4Lead, for his remarkably far-sighted prediction of the winners of Iowa, New Hampshire, Super Tuesday, the nominations, the House majority, and even Clinton's VP pick! A $50 donation to the charity of your choice is yours. Oodles more analysis of the collective wisdom inside [more inside]

Metafilter Stats: March 2009
By request, I updated my Metafilter Stats for the first time in two years. User growth, Top 20 lists, and daily stats are all current, as of last week. [more inside]
Metafilter Infodump: more stats than you can shake a stick at.
Deletion Stats?
I'm an avid reader of Puke & Cry's Deleted Thread blog, and it got me wondering: Do any of the admins have stats on the most posts deleted in one day? Or, the most doubles (i.e. the most posts on one topic that were deleted - I'm guessing it must be an obituary post, maybe James Brown)? Or, the longest time span without a deletion? Etc.
Would it be possible to make MeFi traffic stats public?
Would MetaFilter consider sharing detailed Public Traffic Stats?
This appears to be the strong trend among the top Technoratti Blogs - and SEO blogs.

It would be fascinating to view and discusse where new users are coming from.
What post attract search engine traffic & keywords
What geo-locations are sending viewers during a given time
In previous years there were very general stats showing growth - But something more intriguing could be considered

Statistics Please
Matt, can I have a pony for Christmas? Nothing too fancy, just some public statistics. Boingboing, for example, uses AWStats, which provides a delicious smörgåsbord of information. It doesn't sound too difficult to use, I've set up similar things on sites of my own.
Usage graph irregularities
Curious - what happened approximately 3 months ago that doubled the daily reach of metafilter, according to this graphic?
Why has MetaFilter traffic spiked so fast?
Does anyone know why MeFi has almost doubled its reach during the past 2 weeks? Just curious.
Posting Stats
Some metrics: 50,000 posts and 1.24 million comments since July 14, 1999 = 20.5 posts per day or almost one post per hour, 511 comments per day or about 1 comment every three minutes for the last 6.75 years.
Profile page answer counts shouldn't include follow-ups.
I think that in the profile pages, the answer count for Ask MetaFilter should exclude the user's own comments in their own questions.
Updated Mefi stats through December 2005
User Statistics
Speaking of User Numbers, what happened to the population count on the front page? How are we supposed to know where we stand if we don't know how many others are shoehorned into this tiny webspace?
jus' kiddin' 'round, matt 'owie.

User Statistics
I've noticed a lot of threads asking how many "real" members there are. Would it be difficult to add a counter to the front page that says something like: "There are currently x# users logged in"?
Server Error Log Improvements
I assume the server keeps error logs. So, is there any way to edit the error message itself so that it displays how many times it's happened? The idea is that hopefully, common sense will kick in when it shows that it's happened 150 times or something and we don't end up flooding Matt's mailbox when obviously just a few notes will do.
Busted statistics
Thread/Comment and User Growth statistics, July 2001
Thread/Comment and User Growth statistics are up for July. This is the first month that threads and comments actually dropped slightly, largely because new user signups are still disabled. Also, we broke 10,000 user IDs yesterday. Congratulations, Ricci.
New Stats
New Metafilter stats are online. Check out the top 20 charts, the user growth statistics, and the thread/comment stats. The downtime barely put a dent in all the increased activity from the Kaycee threads.
February 2001 stats
Web Stats for February, in case you were wondering.
November Stats
I hope this doesn't come off as pompous or anything, I just wanted to show everyone the metafilter stats for November. A few things to note: the times are in GMT, so they're 8 hours behind the real time (there isn't a 9am lull in requests, that's actually a 1am lull, PST). I started keeping track of bytes transferred about half way through the month, so the data transfers are off. 330,000 page views is pretty wacky though. As usual, the search requests are mostly disturbing. I don't want to meet most of the people doing those searches.
