Would an extremely cool Greasemonkey script be an acceptable FPP? [a little more inside]

Since it's not immediately accessible (as you'd need Greasemonkey) for probably the vast majority of users I'm conflicted about posting it.

Not everyone uses Firefox, or wants to. Nonetheless, that doesn't stop Flash or Unicode posts, which not everyone can read, view or translate. The majority consensus here seems to be that inaccessible posts are just fine as FPP material, so the criteria you'd use probably shouldn't include whether the subject matter is accessible to everyone.

Um..I don't know. For those of us that use greasemonkey and are not what many on this site would regard as tech proficient, there's mozdev and deliciouspopular and askme that probably keep us up to date. If you post it I will want to read it however. Otherwise add me to the list with ori to notify!

Well, since only a fraction of the website readers use firefox, and only a fraction of them use greasemonkey, the interest would be limited. On the other hand, that's never stopped people before in other subjects. I suppose if it's REALLY REALLY EARTH-SHATTERINGLY cool, and you also included links to firefox and to greasemonkey, you could conceivably convert some people to a new browser.

Yeah if you're worried about the strength of a single link to carry a FPP, you could always add some more backgrounder/content for the less tech-savvy that might answer the "why should I care?" questions that some will inevitably have.

I don't give a shit, I still think its cool. You know that if Google actually implemented something like this (minus the greasemonkey and the bugs) people would be drooling over it. As it stands, its a great idea but still too buggy to be really useful.

The problem with that idea is that not every browser would support this functionality. As sad as it may be, there are people out there who are using outdated (extremely outdated) browsers that are nowhere near the latter-day somewhat standards-compliant browsers of today. It's much easier said than done and if you are not worrying about alienating some potential users and their associated ad-revenue (as Google most certainly is) then it is impossible (now, anyway).
