How about the front page, too? Maybe with a list of the busiest tags over the past week or so--you could statically generate the list every couple of hours or whatever and server-side-include it so the database load wouldn't increase too much.

It's just metafilter.com/tags. But yeah, fourthed; it'd save a few keystrokes, and maybe even encourage new posters to actually look over the existing top 150 so they don't create more of those minor variations that make searching by tags problematic.
