Can i get art project help in askme? October 4, 2005 4:53 PM   Subscribe

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm after a large number (100-200) of participants in a future art project, and wasn't sure if AskMefi was a good place to raise the subject or not.

Is it acceptable? Would doing it here be better?

When Metafilter Projects is complete, I think that's where a request like this would end up going. Until then ... I guess here is OK?

If it's not related to metafilter than this is not the place to ask.

On Ask Metafilter you could ask something like, "I'm doing an art project which requires a couple hundred participants. I'm in [city]. How should I recruit participants?" or something like that.

Does it involve us all posing naked? Cause that idea's taken.

I can't wait for Metafilter Projects! And yes, hit Askme. I'll be waiting.

I'm going to do a jobs site next, and I think volunteers for an art project might fall into that (kinda).

You might also want to try one of the sites that have a lot of MetaFilter folks there, like metachat, monkeyfilter, sportsfilter, bookfilter &c. Ask Metafilter is probably not the place to do it, and neither is MetaTalk.

bookfilter!?!! I didn't know that one existed. I take it there's no relation to MeFi; at least, I didn't recognize any names there.

metachat would be a good place, Askme would not, but dobbs suggestion would be a good idea.

Yeah unfortunately I think that tapping this place for people/resources to do something outside of this place is frowned upon because so many would like to do so, and for purposes that aren't always worthwile. Projects is a great idea and I can't wait to see it launch. Jobs, too!

Limited edition MetaFilter action figures?

My, oh, my. Thanks for the kind words jessamyn. Bookfilter was launched with much fanfare and after software problems and a family emergency it was locked up in the basement like a child in a Matheson story.

Michael Moncur helped me revive it, but I've not had the heart to again publicize it. I do appreciate mathowie listing it on the Etc. page for a long while. Almost all the early users came from here.

So to answer your question peacay: The idiot who started Bookfilter had nothing to do with Metafilter and pleads temporary insanity when he chose the domain name.
