in any case yeah I'll be there.

I'm there. L train anyone?

Just don't go to the Blind Tiger in a rainstorm. Not without a umbrella.

Damn, I wish I could make it, Decani! Drink one for me. And beat someone on the pool table too, mate.

It. Simply. Must. Stop. Raining. NOW.

Looks like it will, actually.

"Saturday : Rain showers ending early with ample sunshine later in the day. High 72F. Winds NW at 15 to 25 mph."

Where do I catch an L train? Amber, are you making the trek?
posted by CunningLinguist at 5:06 PM on October 14, 2005

Take the A to 14th Street. Heading downtown, you want to be at the front of the train. Follow signs to L. Get on either (a) the only train there or (b) the train to which the lit arrow saying Next Train points. You want to be at the back of the train. Get off at the Lorimer stop (second one in Brooklyn). Walk down Metropolitan (NOT Union) in the direction of the overpass. Keep going. It'll be on the other side of the BQE on the right. Watch out for the cars turning left to get to the BQE: they hate you and will not stop.

Please anyone correct, because I'm just guessing the the bar is the one I think.

In Manhattan, the L is always on 14th, at Eighth, Sixth, Union Square, Third, First.
posted by dame at 5:22 PM on October 14, 2005

Okay, I was kidding about the L, but thanks for directions to the saloon.

dame directions are exactly right.

ooooh, nifty map, dorian! Nice find!
posted by Vidiot at 6:49 PM on October 14, 2005

yeah that site rocks; a coworker showed it to me a while ago -- tells you crime statistics for your 'hood, sanitation schedule, can also show libraries, police and fire stations, other various landmarks and statistics. good stuff.

be nice if they would label the tiny red dot with its address, but still. (spuyten duyvil address is 359 metropolitan, btw)
posted by dorian at 6:54 PM on October 14, 2005

Heh. What dame said about the cars turning onto the BQE. You're safer crossing when the walk light is against you, oddly enough. As for location, if you find Black Betty on the corner of Havermeyer and Metropolitan just cross the road and go into the first place that looks remotely like a bar and there you are.

Terrapin - why did you have to remind me about the pool? I did that one brilliant shot on the black though. That definitely offsets all the shite ones.

Jonmc - get well soon mate. Don't get stoned. Ha ha. I am so funny.

Oh shit. idest warned me I'd be in trouble if I posted without logging out first. I'm in trouble. That last post was from me. As if you couldn't tell...

sun?! outside my window right now? wtf?

man, last night I went to an outdoor performance and got soaked to the skin. where was your vaunted sun then, gorrammit?
posted by dorian at 8:54 AM on October 15, 2005

I not only have sun outside the window, I have a street fair I didn't know would be there! God I love this city. I will breakfast on zeppole and spring rolls.
posted by CunningLinguist at 9:01 AM on October 15, 2005

Well, CL, I was pretty sure you knew where the L was, but did you know which end of the train to be at? Huh? Have a nice breakfast.

I think this is the first meetup I've only had one train + a short walk to.

Also, idest is Decani's puppet?

The only thing about that map is that it has the Bedford L at the Driggs entrance, which isn't open on the weekends.
posted by dame at 10:48 AM on October 15, 2005

idest isn't exactly my puppet, dame, although I have a strong feeling I'll be calling her that from now on. Heh.
posted by Decani at 10:55 AM on October 15, 2005

I guessed. It was a very failed joke. The sun has made me happy, and happy is stupid. Or something. Maybe I should stop typing now.

Almost. I'm actually Decani's poppet.

I guessed. It was a very failed joke.

Nah, it was great, even if I responded too late.

i'll probably be a tad late but i'll show up eventually =p

Long as you make it, Stynx. I've gone down with a cold so I'll be a bit Rudolph tonight, but we're definitely coming.

okay guys, i'm an asshole and showed up three hours late. i forgot my wallet at home, and then had to backtrack on the trains for a half-hour, and then wait another hour for the next one in.

By the time I got to spuyten duyvil at 10pm, the group had already splintered. I totally missed you, dorian (and whoever you were with), which really sucked. But at least I got dame and CunningLinguist (and the others) all to myself! Anyway, we finally settled at monkey town for after hours, and had a nice time. We were given access to the super-cool back viewing room, which had four projector screen displays on each wall, and seating around it. They showed Der Lauf der Dinge, and after ten minutes...well, you know.

i didn't take many pictures at all, but put up the half-dozen shots in my flickr photostream. stickycarpet took many photos, but i don't know when/where they'll go up. (on preview: i see what you did there).

my stream, but only six very random, lame shots. I wasn't feeling my camera last night. enjoy. or don't.

I missed the end of the movie. What finally happened? Was there an even better fire explosion? Grander foam?
posted by dame at 7:19 PM on October 16, 2005

the german physicists come out and lather each other up with all that extra foam...and then set each other on fire. I can't believe you missed that part!! ;)

That cushy back room was the coolest place! (from what I, er, remember.) We need to book it for the next meetup.
