Deletion query October 17, 2005 3:15 PM   Subscribe

Ah! The sting of deletion has pricked me for the first time. Without getting into boring specifics (I would assume my offense was off-topicness), I wonder if the policing in AskMe has become more stringent? Guidance from the deleters-on-high would be appreciated--I am all for making the site as useful as possible, and also for not wasting my own time.

Did you receive an email about it? If you were trying to be helpful, a rewrite/repost is generally all that's needed.

Nope, I didn't receive an email. And yes, I was trying to be helpful. It was the question about possible White Sox rioting, and basically I said I was in a similar situation in Baltimore but it was nothing to worry about. So, maybe it was considered an unhelpful response. I'm honestly just wondering if there is a new effort underway to prune ask.metafilter -- the thing about deletions is that you don't tend to see them.

That sounds like a pretty reasonable answer by analogy. Maybe there was just some glitch and your comment was lost? Or did you see it actually posted and then later it was gone?

Unless comments are total noise, I'll email people if I pull stuff. I didn't see your comment. There is no pruning campaign that I am aware of.

Well then, maybe this should have been classified as a bug. My comment was certainly there . . . in fact, it was posted twice. There was a Cold Fusion error when I tried to post it at first, then when I reposted it, it posted twice. I even posted a woops after that, to make a grand total of three posts in the thread (that are no longer there).

Looks like the original and double and "oops" comments were deleted, but I don't recall doing it. I think it might have been an accident or slip of the keys by jessamyn. I put the comment back in.
