Has the Projects site worked as intended? November 29, 2005 12:06 PM   Subscribe

Has the MetaFilter Projects site worked as intended yet? In other words, how many posted projects have been linked to from the front page?

I thought about posting easternblot, but didn't for some reason.

I posted about the phantom PC prank program the first week. I'm going to add a "post to mefi" link on the votes pages, to make it easier.

There are 4-5 worthy sites posted so far I'd say.

That prank program truly is best of the web.

It works for my insomnia.

A "post to mefi" link would be cool -- especially if, once posted, there was something to identify the project as having been posted.

Yeah, a post to mefi link would auto-populate the posting form. Here, I'll just make it now. Ok, done.

Awesomeness! I like the auto-tag and auto-via as well!

Mefi projects = blogroots.

Just sayin'.

Nice, Matt. But maybe the "post to mefi" link should be suppressed for the owner of the project?
posted by Galvatron at 1:26 PM on November 29, 2005

Yeah, good point. Members that post something don't see a vote or post to mefi link on the votes page.

I saw that mattr's post card project, "Found Mattr," was posted in a mutli-link post by cmonkey. I don't know whether it was inspired by mattr's Projects post though.

Is projects finished? It still feels a bit like a bolt on - the colour scheme (esp. white background) and that strange font rather than a traditional Mefi logo.

Also, why no comments on the projects? Would be great to discuss and offer feedback on them. I bet this has been covered.

fire&wings: I think maybe it should work in a two-stage way (as it seems to by accident or intention). You present a good enough idea to get vaulted to MetaFilter, then you are granted the commentary.

You can do this?

Not that I ever would. Really.

Yes, it was, and I should have mentioned that in the post.

Will Projects eventually conform to the rest of Mefi as far as design is concerned? I really feel as if I left metafilter and went to a weird Bizarro metafilter where the design is different and everyone is self-linking.

What's the point of voting on projects when there's just a post to MeFi button? What purpose do the votes serve?
posted by xmutex at 3:49 PM on November 29, 2005

I'd suggest removing the post-to-MeFi link once something has been posted to the front page, as well. Otherwise, we've got our very first double-post generator.

How convenient!

1) More votes may win the Big Prize

2) You can let people know how cool you are, by voting for something other people also like

If you click the button on a project that's already been posted, it shows you the usual "link already posted" warning straight away. This seems good enough to me.

Fair enough. Still, some kinda visual clue ('This project has been posted to Metafilter proper' kinda thing) that it'd already been submitted would probably be good, useability-wise, for someone thinking about submitting it to the blue.

It's an honor just to be considered for the blue!

Seconded. Or n+1ed as case may be.
