That 8,000 character limit looks like it came right in the middle of a quotation this time. Maybe if the fix is too difficult to code for now a counter would be an easier half-measure. Or something that indicates on Preview (which hopefully anyone composing something that long is using) where the My Comments cutoff will fall, along with a stern warning and an animated gif of a wagging finger.

The only quick fix is to filter out all HTML from the My Comments page, but that reduces the utility of it greatly.

Well as a quick fix couldn't you just append "</i></b></em>" unconditionally to the post if it's truncated? It would probably result in the page not validating but isn't that better that fubar formatting?

Can you not serve each comment block in My Comments as a seperate div, to kill dangling tags?
