Computer crashed; it logged me out in AskMe but not here (?). Attempting to login at AskMe returns the following error:

Error Occurred While Processing Request
Element CAPTCHATEXT is undefined in FORM.

Resources:

* Enable Robust Exception Information to provide greater detail about the source of errors. In the Administrator, click Debugging & Logging > Debugging Settings, and select the Robust Exception Information option.
* Check the ColdFusion documentation to verify that you are using the correct syntax.
* Search the Knowledge Base to find a solution to your problem.

Did you fill out the captcha?

delete all your metafilter cookies, then try metafilter.com/login again.

Yes, I filled out the captcha.

No, I did not delete my cookies. It turns out that the site had given that error message but logged me in anyway, as I found out when I went back to the "my comments" page (which had previously prompted me to log in).

Logging out and logging in again did not reproduce the error. Logging out again and trying to log in, but giving the wrong captcha, also did not reproduce the error.

Huh. I guess this one gets filed under "works for me."

Who logs out? Once you're in, bolt the door behind you and say a silent prayer for the poor blighters who live their meaningless lives without MeFi.

I got this error as a new user - scary!

I also get this error when logging in (Opera8/Windows), and only when my username/pass and captcha is correct

I find that I first have to enter an invalid login, which takes me to the bad login screen, then when I login from there, it works...

I have tried clearing my cookies, but that did not help...

I also saw it once with IE... the sequence has to be a bit special:
  • Logout.
  • Press Login
  • Press Login again
  • Login with correct user/pass/captcha -- you will be returned to the login screen
  • Login again -- and you get this error
Other issues: On Opera, the Login page does not show a fresh captcha unless I hit F5 -- Opera is always loading a cached page (the login page does not seem to include any no caching headers, so Opera always displays the same captcha)
