Not sure if something's been covered by the media? Don't want to look silly by writing, "Why isn't anyone reporting this?" when it's in every newspaper but the ones you're reading? Are you finding that the AP wire doesn't have enough information to satisfy you anymore? Here's where to look.
Overflowing "Favoritos", thank you!

And then, for every artilce you find, post it on metafilter's frontpage and say "any thoughts?"

Maybe there should be a drop-down box on the front page of Mefi with these links as a hint for everyone as to what constitutes 'common knowledge'. Or would it give people ideas as to more topics to discuss...?

This is definitely sidebar material. Or even "post a comment" material.

Dammit. Inside.com and Brill's Content have fallen. Seth Mnookin's article says it all.

Jane's Information Group is quite good for war and nation related news, and they always have excellent sources.

Search 5000 news sites and weblogs for current events
Check out the Daypop Top 40, the current most-linked URLs.
NewsTrove.
Good, straightforward news search with plenty of sources.
Moreover
Reliable, fast, pretty comprehensive: not just the big sources, but oodles of small ones, as well.
Ithaki
A news search of the most prominent online media sources, in multiple languages.
MyHawker
Metasearch 2000 news sources in multiple languages from multiple regions and countries. A butt-ugly web site, though. Kind of lame the way it sorts results by country.
Find Articles
Search mostly magazines, but also some newspapers and other media content up to two years old. Not that useful for yesterday's or today's news, but not bad for two weeks old and before.
