Riddle:

What brings ThePinkSuperhero's foot down, makes me jiggle with excitement, and is right around the corner from mathowie's hotel?

It's a NYC MEFI MEETUP! 6pm on Sunday, 3/26, at Revival, near Union Square. Be THERE! Or be drunk... uh, ELSEWHERE! yeah...

Shows me for not checking around here more often. I'm going to be in NYC starting on the 26th, but my flight doesn't get in until 10pm.

That's a pretty Classy and Pricey place for a Mefi meetup. Are you sure that's allowed?

You're always free to participate in person PP. You can always pick the locale and pay out of your own pocket for everyone. There's nothing to stop you from bringing your relatives along for the ride as well. In fact, you've been invited numerous times. No matter what you think of folks on the site, amberglow and jonmc have awlays gone to bat for you, in mentioning how civil and urbane you actually are at the live gatherings. Please, come over and shake hands with the crowd. No duplicity here - show up. Buy a round. Relax. The cluster of other visitors to the site is scarcely a wilding mob, so there's no need to fear or hostility. Should scheduling be a problem for you, the offer is still very much open for any other shindig.

I was just kidding. Well, Irving Place, unlike other venues, doesn't make me feel old, so, there's a very good chance...but not sure I can afford "buying [everyone] a round." How about just you?

Of course! Metro-North tickets don't exactly grow on trees, I might be able to afford a pitcher of might have to settle for Red Stripe. ; )

(Or perhaps I can drag over some of the lovely cider I'm enjoying now.)

For a split second, I saw my name and thought I was being called out.

I will be there!

I'll try and make it.

Revival is extremely awesome. I'll sadly have to miss this meetup. Someone accidentally spill their beer on Mathowie for me, since that's probably what I'd do if I were there.

I will be buying a van at that time. Really. Have fun!

scarabic, it sucks we never had the chance to meet in SF, nor in NYC, as i'm no longer in the area :( sorry i'll miss out on the party, but enjoy manhattan and all the lovely things around the city...

You all suck for having a meetup on the same weekend as the biggest bestest swim meet of the season. That is all.

PP - meetups are like Valhalla, or the Klingon home world: you can lay your weapons down and drink with your enemies.

naxos - my heart is crushed! crushed like a walnut!

I've never met him, to my knowledge--jon has tho. Come on, PP--it'll be interesting, to say the least.

scarabic, naxo's somewhere much more fab--i'll fill you in at the meetup, if it's ok with naxo : >

Maybe, maybe.

I have no idea what I'm schedule is like that day, but I'll try and swing by for a bit.

HOLD IT RIGHT THERE mister, a lot of people are showing up JUST TO MEET YOU! "I'll try and swing by for a bit"? No. YOU BETTER BE THERE or we will come and find you.

I have my methods.

no doubt I will be by.

I'll still have to wait until the semister cools. Instead of returning to college, I could've bought my batchelor's from a diploma mill, but nooooo!

But PP a round for me, though. And another for scarabic, our designated naxosaxur for the weekend.

Hmm, a reason to go into Manhattan, and alcohol (and of course, MeFites)? Count me in.

Maybe I'll even get some people to know who I am!

YOU BETTER BE THERE or we will come and find you.

The rub is I have a baby and my wife in a town they've never been to, it'll be kind of cold outside and we have some wedding engagements earlier that day and a ton of friends in town, so I don't know if I'll be trying to meet people for dinner that night, but I can probably get away for a bit before dinner and say hi.

Oh. Those are pretty good reasons. (I thought maybe you just wanted to spend some "quality" time at "Scores".)
posted by R. Mutt at 11:12 AM on March 22, 2006

Well, I SUPPOSE those are good excuses. But only because that baby is cute.

(And I don't even know that it needs saying, but of course your wife is welcome. We're very friendly to non-Mefite spouses; just ask Mr. Gaspode. Of course, then I suppose the baby would have to stay home alone, which probably wouldn't work, so......)

We've had babies at NYC meetups before.

They seem to be a common sight at certain bars...Mathowie could bring the whole family.

Thats true, now that smoking is banned.
posted by R. Mutt at 12:27 PM on March 22, 2006

True, and the way Revival is set up, with the upstairs couchy room, it'd be a perfectly comfortable place for a baby.

I'll be in NYC this weekend. Would it be weird/bad to attend another city's meetup?
posted by k8t at 4:23 AM on March 23, 2006

No. Please attend.

ha ha amberglow...no need to tell them...everyone knows ive gone to live in kazakhstan to gain one year ploughing experience.

happy-lucky number-one scarabic...it would have been awesome to meet you...and i offer regardless my best wishes, and to an excellent week of exciting travel!

matt howie...revival is totally cool, but no place for babies...it's like musky and kind of dank in there. i mean, c'mon. it's a divey bar. in nyc. no offense guys (or TPS) rite?

The downstairs, maybe... the upstairs isn't so bad.
