Agreeing with scarabic, 29's comment is moronic because it so happens that there are a number of pots and pans you can buy at your local store that, if left on a burner to overheat, will release toxic fumes. Yeah, it's teflon coated pans which as far as I can figure is damn unlikely for a tea kettle, but the asker may have just remembered "common coating overheats, releases toxic fumes", which happens to be true.
