Sidebar collapse. I think when folks were asking for the sidebar collapse to be brought back, it was not so much to get rid of clutter as it was to free up that 25% of the screen that the front page posts could run into. Even with the sidebar collapsed [and the ads remaining, they're ok with me] I still have a large blue stripe down the right hand side, making it one longass page. Is there a way to wiggle around the front page elements to have the ad present but more side-to-side room for posts, or is this just me and my mac pissing into the wind?
What kindall said. On the windows side of things, the text wraps around the box nicely.

It wraps nicely in IE5.1 on Mac OS X. On my Mac anyway.

Weird. I'm using IE 5.1 on Mac OS X (10.1), and it doesn't wrap.

(Off topic, but, Todd: get 10.1 now. Except for that little sidebar wrap thing (which I"m sure Apple is working on furiously as we speak ;), it's a big improvement.)

Is that what's wrong? I too thought it was an example of following the letter of the suggestion while missing the point entirely. It's not the sidebar I object to (that's actually kind of neat) but the space it takes away from the front-page posts (which are, after all, what I come to metafilter looking for).
Ahh, well. HTML sucks. Thanks for taking the time to put the feature back in, Matt!

Rodii: All the stores in my area are completely out of 10.1 update discs, and I just plain don't have the 20 bucks at the moment to send to Apple. I would download it from Hotline/Carracho, but I have no CD burner. Help a brother out? ;)

Maybe if the "You are logged in" text was pushed to the left and the ad moved up to take its spot, this problem could be worked around to a certain extent.
