Microsoft Live Labs director in MeFi July 29, 2006 5:29 PM   Subscribe

Kinda cool; lilbrudder (who is me, in case anyone cares/didn't know - I'm reserving the "jonson" ID strictly for double posts these days) posts about a new technology from Live Labs, the prototyping skunkworks division of Microsoft, and in the middle of the discussion, the director of the lab chimes in - turns out he's been a mefite for years.

Now that I wrote this, I notice that it's linked in the sidebar, making this post redundant. Oh well.

Interrobang emailed me to let me know and I sidebarred it. It's cool, I agree.

I think it got sidebarred while I was busy catching up on the 300+ comments in the two threads beneath this one. Damn antisemitic members & their "." posting counterparts! Distracted me.

Wait, what?

I think he meant that sarcastically, since he's posted a few doubles (accidentally) lately. Bad boy!

dr. flakenstein is really cute - thank you for bringing that to my attention, lilbrudder.

*gives lilbrudder noogies*

And yeah, I've posted WAY too many doubles lately. Each time I feel like a complete tool. I'm searching the crap out of things from now on. This kind of shit never happens to crunchland :-(

Hey, FYI, it's been sidebarred.

eh bill, what do you need your johnson for?

As they say in France, C'est cool. I read MeTa far more often than a wimpy sidebar.

Yeah, it happens to me, too, jonson. I just IM Matt or Jess and have the evidence removed before anyone notices.

So what's the scoop on people using their sock puppets to beat posting restrictions? Is that okay?

Baby needs a new recumbent plasma bigwheel.

As long as the links are quality - as jonson and lilbrudder's are - and they aren't spam or self-linking whoremeistering, what's the problem?

In a general sense if you have an "out" sock puppet and you consistently post twice per day, eventually people will get fed up with it. If it's a once in a while thing, it's not a huge deal. jonson, do you not know the crunchland double-post checker tip set, or are you just having a run of bad luck? If you think the search is behaving in some counterintuitive way, let me or mathowie know.

It's my fault that jonson's been double posting lately. I shouldn't have joked about getting free cake for posting links as quickly as possible.
posted by Smart Dalek at 6:48 AM on July 30, 2006

The double posting has been entirely my fault, jess - I think I keep finding stuff obsure/recent enough to be immune to a thorough search, and I keep being wrong. As for the lilbrudder account, I've posted from it four times in two months - it's certainly not a scam to increase my total number of posts per day.

Whoa there. It wasn't a call out. I don't keep up with which sock-puppet account belongs to who, and as such it wasn't an issue that occurred to me, but as it did, and we had a relevant discussion going I thought I'd find out the craic.

Cool. I never looked at boids in the same way after reading his lovely "Computational Beauty of Nature."

I make my double posts under jonson's name too.

for what it's worth, he joined the same day as me (latvia's national day - easy to remember!), which was pretty much when membership was re-opened after a freeze of an eternity-and-a-half.

just saying...coz it might imply a longer period of lurking prior to signing up.
