Boston and Cambridge meetup reminder. August 25, 2006 5:36 AM   Subscribe

Reminder: Boston/Cambridge area meetup, tomorrow, Saturday, August 26. Cambridge Brewing Company at Kendall Square in Cambridge at 6pm for dinner, followed by a very short walk to Flat Top Johnny's for pool. (Previously)

The count from the last thread seems to be at least 13. Should we make reservations at CBC? I've never been there, how busy is it, and how ready for large groups will they be? Enfa's suggestion about eating outside might be a challenge given the forecast.

Is CBC the kind of place a 19-year-old can walk into and eat? If so, I'll see if I can make it for dinner.

eat at, rather.
posted by danb at 6:14 AM on August 25, 2006

Yes, I believe it is. It's a restaurant that just happens to brew their own (excellent) beer. And AFAIK, you can play (or just hang) at Flat Top Johnny's, too.

Whoever picks the dates of these events seems to have mastered the art of picking days I'm otherwise busy. Last Boston meetup was on graduation day, and this one I'm moving to a new apartment. Alas.

Have fun! I'll swing by for the next one.

Is this the type of thing you have to be a young, city-dwelling, hip, attractive, interesting and fresh-smelling person to attend or would a mid-30s, un-cool suburban dad with no social skills and a pungent aroma feel at home?

Assuming your pungent aroma is less Amorphophallus titanum and more more of a parmesan, you'll feel perfectly at home, I guarantee.

Can't do this one, but next time, hopefully!

It's more like the unmistakable stench of a crushed soul, nothing a little Right Guard won't take care of. I might be able to make it, depending on how my day goes tomorrow.

Banjo and I should be there!

Hard to tell how many people will show up at all vs. show up at 6. Should I reserve seating for 10 at 6:15?

I intend to come for the food, and will bring one, maybe two, regular registered lurking readers as well. I have no excuse now, and swore I'd make it to one meet-up before leaving bos.

I just moved here, and I guess I missed the first announcement while I was packing boxes. Is it too late to join in?

brett: It is never too late. Well, until Sunday. Then it is too late.
posted by whatzit at 4:14 PM on August 25, 2006

Cool, I'll be there then.

OK, maybe I'll show and have some grub and a pinta.

By nine I'll probably be ready to sack out on a pool table from all the beer. Hic! ;)

Especially given it's a Saturday night, is there any way to know who y'all are? Someone's bringing a stupid hat right?

In the last thread, enfa said he'll be wearing a bright red creative commies shirt. I have no idea what I'll be wearing, but I'll definitely have an old-timey-looking camera with me. Chances are that if you look for a mass of awkward looking nerdlingers and ask them if they're from Metafilter, you'll probably be right. In fact, thinking back on it, every time I've gone to a meetup, I've been able to pick out the Mefites in an otherwise-crowded place.

Reservations at the CBC are made for a party of 12 at 6:15 under the name 'metafilter'. I'm sure we'll be able to snag more chairs if people come later.

I'm a tall blonde caucasian male, and I'll be in aforementioned creative commies red shirt. If you'd like to bring something big and obnoxious like a day glo orange camo cowboy hat, we'll put it to use.

If it's a nice evening a table outside might be nice:

But, it might be a bit cool tonight so bring a jacket. The seating area outside is much nicer than inside IMHO. Inside feels a little drab & plain. I'll be there for a food & drink, not sure how long I'll stay.

Do we go by our real names or Meta-names? Can I bring a camera and take pics? If everyone has Asperger's can I leave really quickly? ;) (Only joking, I've a bad sense of humor.)

bondcliff, I'm about your age and I'm going to try and show. So we can compare our aches & pains if we can't get chatting to all them there young'uns! 8)

I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. (Moving takes longer than I thought, evidently.) I'll try to make the next one -- have fun!

Not going to happen for me either tonight, unfortunately. Have a good time.

I will be there, and I'm leaving in 10 minutes.

Hoping everyone's having fun, I'm currently stuck in the office - grumble grumble - D*mn site launches...

I'd totally be there if I had found out before now.

I didn't make it there either!

Was a nice evening, I'm glad I went. Those pitchers of beer at CBC are neat. Sorry I couldn't make it to Flat-tops!

I'll probably get me names mixed up here, so please excuse me if I do:

brett: Hope the new job goes well!
Sam: Good luck driving. ;) I hope the tunnels & roofs tour went well too.
Steph: I hope ye get to Japan!

Everyone else: good to meet ya! ;)

Holy shit, I was in Waltham that night. Dammit. I was going to call a meetup for two weekends from now. Is that too soon to do it again?

Next time, post the reminder like a week in advance, so that those of use who are away from our computers since Friday morning will see it.

It's never too early to have another meetup!
posted by Plutor at 7:00 PM on August 27, 2006

Eideteker: It was posted sometime ago http://metatalk.metafilter.com/mefi/12437

Plutor posted this notice as a reminder as the original invite had disappeared into the nether-regions.

But, it's never too late for another, especially as college is starting up again. I'm sure there's plenty of folk looking to get out.
posted by zaphod at 9:01 PM on August 27, 2006

Yeah; last time I saw that thread it was still supposed to be the 20th, so I didn't pay attention. It's cool; I'll have plenty of time for meetups once I'm in town fulltime.
