Auckland meet up this weekend? October 11, 2006 10:03 PM   Subscribe

Auckland meet up this weekend? As a follow up to this call for a barbeque in Cornwall Park this weekend, do we have enough people keen? Did we decide a day? Is it going to rain? (being Auckland we can be sure of a yes to the last question at least).

First we need to settle for sure on a day. Personally, I'd like to come but I'm busy on Sunday (Diwali festival at Britomart). I could do Saturday though, this weekend at least, or Sunday next weekend, if we decide to change it.

It's getting warm enough for barbequeing during the day but the unsettled spring weather might not co-operate rain and wind-wise. So we should probably go for more a sheltered area if possible. We also need either someone turning up early enough to nab a barbeque or something portable that can be brought along. Anything else we should be thinking of?

i think others have mentioned a preference for saturday this week? either day is about the same for me.

regarding joe's_spleen's previous offer of mean bean salad for vegetarians: gimme some o' dat.

regarding alternatives: there are a bunch of cafes just across the road on Manukau Road as possible sheltered locations (in the event of a down pour - this is Auckland after all...)? Haven't been there in a while, is Frolic still there?

P.S. exactly where are the BBQs in Cornwall Park?? [ahem]

So far Saturday seems to be the preference of the majority of those others who are free this weekend at all (me, toxic, nadise) and The Monkey may drop by if he is not skiing. rob511 is free from 2 PM on.

If we go for Saturday, then I can still be Chief BBQ nabber.

There's actually several BBQ locations in the park - I was thinking of the wood ones (see map and click on the popup) because I like setting things on fire.

We could try for another date, say after Labour Weekend, but my prediction is that 5 or 6 people is probably about as good as we can muster given how many we are.

I would also suggest that if it is raining at say 11AM we abort and go for the cafe option. If ancamp could nominate which one?

oh go on then. I haven't been there in ages (so if anyone knows the area better, feel free to veto me), but the afore mentioned Frolic (menu, address etc) used to be a safe bet. In the event of a wash out, meet there?

forgive my late arrival to this party. was there a general start time agreed to that I somehow missed in reviewing previous posts?

No. I suggest 12 PM. Otherwise it may be difficult to justifiably "bags" a spot.

Saturday works for me and I've convinced my boyfriend that going to meet a bunch of internet peoples will be good for him :-D So that adds two to the list. We can do mid-dayish.

I like the wood barbies also, we're charcoal all the way at home. Aren't some of them located in areas somewhat sheltered from the wind? I've got used to rain since I moved north but spring winds always drive me nuts.

So. Time: 12 pm onwards.
Bring: salad to share and something to burn on the barbeque. Oh, and we have frisbees around here somewhere. And a picnic rug.
Preparation: joe's spleen is giong to stake out an area early. Do we need a sign or something so I don't end up crashing someone elses lunch?
Contingency plan: Frolic on Manakau Road.

Anything else?

I will be wearing a large goofy panama hat like an old coot playing bowls. My cell is 027 255 9436 if you need to stalk me.
