hellz ya

Although I think I may have changed my mind about bringing party hats.

Wow, mathowie and jessamyn at the same meet-up... You could probably charge admission.
posted by amro at 10:11 AM on October 27, 2006

me and jessamyn can kick people out though, so don't be douchebags or you'll get a timeout.
posted by mathowie (staff) at 10:20 AM on October 27, 2006

where timeout = jello shots in the back room until you get a wicked headache.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 10:23 AM on October 27, 2006

Oh, and I don't think it was mentioned in the prior thread, but we should totally take over the upstairs like we did last time.

Totally.

*flags dersins*

Yeah, upstairs was pretty cool.

WE'LL BE UPSTAIRS.

Also, can we get a shoutout for fellow PDX MeFian cranberry, whose birthday is today? Pretty please? TIA.
posted by Lynsey at 10:42 AM on October 27, 2006

Shit - I'm here right now, but going back to Seattle tonight!! Dang.

Bring your favorite Sharpie or other indelible marker. I noticed yesterday that I have a nearly MeFi-blue shirt, and I'm considering wearing it for your tagging/shoutout enjoyment.

Please, no Magnum 44Ds or paint markers. That shit's just stinky.
posted by loquacious at 11:36 AM on October 27, 2006

Oh speaking of, I'll bring my first test blank of the mefi tshirts. It's pretty close to mefi blue, if a little bright. It took me two years to find some company doing a blue with a teeny bit of green in it and this is the closest one yet.

I plan to be there! I've never been to an *official* meetup before. Does Matt by drinks for everyone?
posted by jdroth at 12:33 PM on October 27, 2006

Just out of curiosity, has anyone called the Rose & Raindrop to warn them that they will be experiencing a large influx of folks at a non-standard time?

Does Matt do spellchecks for everyone?

I just called them. No problem. They are now expecting us.

fyi.

Maaaan, I wish I could go, but this is the busiest weekend of the year for a Halloween freak. Sorry to miss y'all.
posted by frykitty at 1:30 PM on October 27, 2006

They are now expecting us.

Damnit, now they're going to hide the good silverware and china! Probably water down the hooch, too.

I'm going to try to make it, though I'm also wrapping up a big move so I don't know if it will happen or not. It will be my first-ever meetup, so yippee!
posted by croutonsupafreak at 2:40 PM on October 27, 2006

Actually, croutonsupafreak, it'll be in a slim interpretation of such things your second meetup. Think back to, lo, 2001? Powells, City of, in late October or possibly very early November. PDXs NaNoWriMo folks got together blindly in the coffee shop area to talk Novelling and meet each other. It cam out in conversation that you were a mefite, and that I was a mefite, and there may have been some brief further discussion thereof. So in a tiny circumstantial way, that was your (and my) first metafilter meetup.

And that Gerry guy? The scary unkempt dude wearing the wifebeater and trying to buy someone's palm pilot (christ, maybe that was me) and who kept interrupting the conversation with non sequiturs and looking hurt when people talked around him even though he was COMPLETELY NUTS and then later he sent out an email to all the PDX folks talking about how we weren't considerate and attentive to his contributions, or something like that? Remember that?

Good times.

Last time we met there I called them and they were shocked that we'd even bothered. I'll hopefully make it, although I've got family showing up in town in the late afternoon/early evening. I'm torn on the hats.
posted by togdon at 3:08 PM on October 27, 2006

I do, indeed, recall that, cortex. Did you finish your book? I managed o finish mine, but only by throwing in a "who can sing the best rendition of the national anthem" contest, and then having each character sing all the verses, in succession.
posted by croutonsupafreak at 3:25 PM on October 27, 2006

Ha! No, I never developed that sort of dedication, that year or the next. Finished on my third year, though.
posted by cortex at 3:27 PM on October 27, 2006

Ya mo be there.
posted by turbodog at 4:00 PM on October 27, 2006

Are mathowie and jessamyn allowed to be in the same place? Shouldn't jessamyn be hiding in an undisclosed location? We are in a post 9-11 world.

I had just burst into tears, thinking I was going to be out of town for the Meetup of the Early Part of the 21st Century, when I remembered we decided to leave Sunday morning instead.

My tears dried up like Portland raindrops when the sun comes out.

See you there.

I will be babysitting. Because I am tha-a-a-a-at cool.

umm no hats? bummer...
posted by yodelingisfun at 1:58 AM on October 28, 2006

Dude, you can still wear hats. They just aren't compulsory.
posted by cortex at 8:18 AM on October 28, 2006

What about pants? Are pants compulsory?
posted by loquacious at 8:36 AM on October 28, 2006

What about pants?

The sign outside said "no shirt, no shoes, no service" So I assume they're cool with the pantless masses.

Be advised that the Burnside Bridge is closed all weekend.

Be advised that the Burnside Bridge is closed all weekend.

Good thing my pants don't want to cross the river any more than I do.

Fuck the west side, anyway.

Well, except Powell's.

And maybe the Towne Lounge.

posted by dersins at 12:16 PM on October 28, 2006

Burnside Bridge is overrated. Try the Morrison!
posted by cortex at 1:47 PM on October 28, 2006

Wowzers! Just noticed this -- I don't make it into the gray too much yet, bein' as how I'm pretty new and all. Must be my serendipitous Saturday synergy! Everything's coming up JohnFredra!
posted by JohnFredra at 1:47 PM on October 28, 2006

I can't get there until 6, will anyone even be there? I'll try and bring Harvey Girls....
posted by yodelingisfun at 1:51 PM on October 28, 2006

There will without question still be people there at 6.
posted by cortex at 1:57 PM on October 28, 2006

I suspect that it is likely that there will still be people there at last call.

And by people, I mean alan.
posted by dersins at 2:04 PM on October 28, 2006

Speaking of alan...
posted by cortex at 2:13 PM on October 28, 2006

posted by dersins at 2:19 PM on October 28, 2006

I'll be there in the 3:30-3:45 range, just gonna grab some lunch right now.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 2:28 PM on October 28, 2006

Looks like I'm the first one back.

You imaginary Internet people are a lot of fun.

Get Cortex to tell you the one about why one equals zero because of Alexander the Great. It's a thigh-slapper.

I took eight pictures, they are here. Please remind me what The New Guy's name was?
